Young America's Foundation: Samford president's 'Update' misrepresents the actions of faculty:

"He also claimed his faculty members who questioned the prospective YAF students were simply trafficking in hypotheticals in order to 'clarify' the Sharon Statement's famously anti-communist message.

    This is false.

The email below was sent to student Karalee Geis, a senior at Samford who is attempting to start the chapter, by members of the faculty after they rejected her efforts in a meeting.

It could not be any clearer - Samford put in writing its opinion that the anti-communist sentiments in the Sharon Statement are 'inflammatory' and 'exclusive' and needed to be 'amended' or 'justified.' That is not hypothetical."

The school's announced it's cutting $$$ ties with the state Baptist convention:

Samford won't accept Baptist convention funds after LGBT flap

"Samford University has announced it is voluntarily reducing its anticipated budget allocation from the Alabama Baptist State Convention to zero effective Jan. 1, 2018."

"Samford President Andrew Westmoreland...said recent tension between Samford and state convention leaders over a proposed student organization to discuss LGBT rights and issues was a factor."

"The Samford faculty voted April 27 to recommend approval of 'Samford Together,' a student organization that 'will provide a forum for SU students who want to discuss topics relating to sexual orientation and gender identity' in 'an open-minded and accepting environment.'"

A strange and somewhat related turn of events:
Samford forfeits Baptist funds but pulls plug on student gay-straight alliance
