Here is a paste from my blog on Baptist Universalism, a little mix of Baptist past and Baptist present.

I actually think "Baptist Universalist" is an oxymoron.

"investigation of Primitive Baptist Universalists -- Calvinist 'No-Hellers' "

"Among the many forms of religious practice found in the ridges and hollows of Central Appalachia, one of the most intriguing -- and least understood -- is that of the Primitive Baptist Universalists (PBUs). Popularly known as the No-Hellers, this small Baptist sub-denomination rejects the notion of an angry God bent on punishment and retribution and instead embraces the concept of a happy God who consigns no one to eternal damnation. This book is the first in-depth study of the PBUs and their beliefs"

Some people think all Baptists are morons! :D

But seriously, yes, once you move to universalism are not Baptist theologically anymore. In most cases the trajectory will show that at some point, usually sooner rather than later, including dropping the Baptist appellation. If outsiders did not know what to listen for, though, the Appalachian Primitive Baptist Universalists might go unnoticed as being all that much difference from their Primitive Baptist neighbors. They are something of an anomaly.
