Then I would suggest you consider joining the TEXAS STATE GUARD . This organizations is the backup for the Texas National Guard. Even if you did not qualify for federal service, you may still be able to enlist the Texas Guard. Also, there is a possibility of obtaining a commision.

For those of you not in Texas, check out The STATE GUARD ASSOCIATION and then click on the State you are in. In the event your State does not have a State Guard, you may be able to enlist in the Guard of a neighboring state.

    Hi SALTCITYBAPTIST,

I only wish I wasn't too old to try to get in the Guard, but I passed the age limit many years ago :-(. Seriously, I'm too old, but if I could join today I would. I can't think of anything more honorable to do.

P.S. I was told when I failed my physical that I didn't get in based on a football knee injury and a history of asthma. Those were long ago however, and neither has been a problem since college. I'm still running pretty much daily. I suppose they go with the stats.

What's the plans for Vet's Day? This year our family will honor two nieces that served in Iraq. They were both Air Force which was a hard pill to swallow for our all-Army family. They did a great job and we're proud of their service to our Country.

If it burns will you still have to work? I shouldn't knock France. My Dad got both his Purple Hearts and his Bronze Star in France. Come to think of it, so did Grandpa. Well considering what the French did for both of them I recant my burning comment.

    sorta.

According to the Tx Guard info page, you can join up until the age of 59 (NY is 62) Also I am a disabled Vet (with a monthly check) and I qualified medically for enlistment in the NY Guard.

Married to a retired Navy Chief. He served 26 years mostly on submarines.

My father was awarded the Silver Star, Purple Heart, and the highest medal France awarded, for the Battle of DiArgonne during WWI. He was 18 years old...

I forgot, when I enlisted in the Navy, I was rejected in the physical because of my feet. I had flat feet, they said I wouldn't make it through boot camp because of a lot of marching.

I asked them if they could waive the rejection if my doctor gave me a letter of approval, they agreed. It wasn't easy in boot camp, but I toughed it out.

     [IMG] [IMG]
