Moira3, So happy to hear that you joined the church and everything worked out okay for you.

I've been a Baptist all my life and I am not much of a hugger either ;) I will hug the people who loved to be hugged, though.

I asked my pastor's wife once if it bothered her for all the women to hug her husband. She said "Goodness, No, I think Christian Hugs are important" [IMG]

I know that you are going to love your new church and they will be such a comfort to you while your husband is away. [IMG]

Interesting discussion. How about looking at the other side of the coin by starting a topic on how to find a church! I've known some people not to seek membership until they've checked out the church by attending many services and talking to many people for months and months.

Personally, I've looked at the Pastor very closely and praying before seeking membership in my church, which I've been in now for eight years. I had gotten hurt in another church (not Baptist) that held to poor doctrine for thirty years before the Holy Spirit whopped me upside the head to get my attention [IMG] (I quit it when I heard the minister say right from the pulpit during an Easter service that he did not believe in the devil  !!)

    Hello all,
As I am a brand new member to the BB I am still learning how this message system works, so please be patient with me.
I would like to throw my two cents in on this discussion about "joining a church".
I have been placed in a tight spot a time or two with this very situation of folks wanting to join our church.
I have come to this Biblical conclusion:
As the shepherd of the flock that God has placed me over, I realize that according to the book of Hebrews I must give an account to God for their souls. Not the deacons, board, or any other such group. The Pastor / Leader / Rule
I certainly want to be careful of who I must give an account of before God.
