Years ago, when I was at Bible Camp (to many to admit)
I remember we had a missionary ( lets say to Peru ) .

I recall a camper telling his counselor that God had called him to
be a missionary to Peru (because of the missionary)

The counselor than told the camper that God does not do that.
First the Lord will call you to the mission field - then later ( maybe
a year or more - then He will call you to a specific field.

I dont exactly recall, but the camper was 10-12 years old - possibly.

Question - do you agree with that camp counselor?

Having been in Charismatic churches and having left them, what that counselor did sounds like Charismaticism. In Charismaticism there are all kinds of "methods" and "rubrics" to doing something supernatural, understanding some revelation, or getting some supernatural call.

I see no "rubric" or "method" for being supernaturally called to missions like the counselor claims. The bible does not give us set in stone steps to being confirmed in what seems to be a supernatural call to do something. To assume there is a "rubric," a "method," or clear steps seems like it is adding to scripture like the Charismatics. That said, there is definitely wisdom to be used in such situations that is true down the years.

I leave for another thread the problem of if there is always a supernatural call to ministry of the Word.
