    And again your inconsistency is showing. You just talked about admiring someone's civil tone. And yet you turn around and use anything but a civil tone. Maybe you are tone deaf.

    Charles Stanley and R.C. Sproul featured next to one another as best preachers is something very puzzling.

    Rippon is like a gnat! Someone ask for your opinion. You give it and suddenly you are obligated to explain to him the reason for every decision and thought behind what you think.

    He reminds me of when I substitute taught, fisrt thing I would do is write in big letters on the board, MYOB. Then I would ask them what it meant. They always knew. The difference is they would obey and Rippon would get sent to the Principal's Office.

    Sometimes the meat gets stuck in our throats and we need some milk to wash it down.

    I am thankful for both of them, for Dr Stanley is good for new babes in Christ, while Dr Sproul good to "chew the cud!"

    I like Stanley, just not as enjoyable to me as he once was in the past. He is definitely a 'milk' preacher though. Nothing wrong with that, babes in Christ desire the milk and grow by it according to Scripture. God uses his true ministers in different ways -- even Paul said he couldn't use meat but used milk so there is application.

    Seems to me that many (if not most) of the respondents are mentioning pastor/teachers they agree with, thus they like them... very subjective. That said, how can we avoid it.

    For me, I "enjoy" Adrian Rogers. I spent some time with him before he passed when I was in seminary. He was a Godly man and I believe has was a fantastic Bible communicator. Do I agree with him in all matters of theology or soteriology? Nope. But I have no problem recommending him to others.

    The guys I listen to for personal edification: Matt Chandler, Mark Driscoll, David Platt, and John Piper. They are a theological fit for me and are current. I tend to avoid pastors/preaching that is overtly patriotic/nationalistic or is not exegetical.

    It's less about personalities and more about strategy and mission.

    Best I've heard? Brother Eugene North, many years ago at a tiny rural church.

    Worst? Ok, not gonna tattle, but suffice to say I have heard those I would not return for a second helping of.
