My Church is starting a women's Bible Study by Beth Moore. I honestly don't know much about her and what she teaches except I have heard that there is some controversy surrounding her. My question is this:

For those of you who have been through one of her Bible Studies :

What do you know about her and what she teaches?

    Thanks,

    Joseph Botwinick

    Joseph -
I don't know anything myself but maybe you can dig something up on this page or on the rest of the site. Let us know what the women in your church think, too. Thanks.

Thanks for the link. I will check it out. In the meantime, I would like to hear from those who have participated in one of her Bible Studies and hear any positive or negative feedback.

    Thanks,

    Brother Joseph---about Beth Moore, huh???

    Well---where can I start??

First, let me say that the Beth Moore studies are directed toward women audiences. She is a Ladies teacher at FBC, Houston, TX where she got her start intially.

Because her videos and Bible Studies are directed more or less toward women----I can honestly say that I have never viewed any of her teaching videoes in its entirety---honest---not that she isn't a good teacher/instructor---but I personally believe that her studies are geared toward women and not men----and I'd rather a male teacher to instruct me----know what I mean???

My wife on the othre hand---for the past several years---since the beginning of Sister Moore's first teaching production---has facilitated our church women in its teaching program.

Now---to make a long story short---I can guarantee that if you want your wife to become a better disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ--I would encourage you to get her involved in Sister Moore's video series---just let the women of your church get started with the first series---"A Woman's Heart: God's Dwelling Place"----indepth study of the OT Tabernacle and the New Testament spiritual application---see if you don't see a change in the women's heart and outward attitude toward the Lord Jesus Christ and His church, and toward her husband, her children and her fellow church members.

Top notch teaching!! I'm jealous that men don't have such a teaching program---at least none that I've ever been a part of---except one titled "A Man of His Word" by Adrian Rogers

I've done probably 10 studies and am leading one now on Wednesday nights called Believing God, which just may be my favorite.
Beth encourages women to live a godly life, with worship and prayer, and greatly encourages bible study, even independant bible study not just her studies, she encourages scripture memorization, and sharing Christ.
I know our ladies who do these studies have grown, and grown closer to God. When we did Breaking Free a few years ago, it was a major work God did in our group.
Beth's ministry is a ministry to women, and she address women only.
What would you like to know about her and her studies Joseph?

I've been in several of Beth Moore's Bible studies. I won't repeat what the others have said. She's good, very good. I've watched her grow as a teacher from her early works to her current ones. I hope people have seen even a fraction of the growth in me.

    Bro. David,

Aren't you the pastor of your Church? If yes, I would think you would want to review everything in advanced that was going to be taught in your Church and make sure it was sound. I know I would.

Beth is baptist, is pretty much on the same ground as a lot of people here when it comes to docrtines. She believes in salvation through Jesus only, no works salvation, virgin birth, the sinless life of Christ, the death of Christ for our sins, the resurection, diety of Christ, the return of Christ, indwelling Holy Spirt, scripture is God inspired.
Anything more and you'd have to be more specific.

Beth is well studied, even studies word meanings from the greek, involves all of scripture, is a very good teacher, nows how to reach women.

Which study is your women's group going to do?

I haven't done that one yet, it new, just recently released. It's on our women's ministry schedule for next spring.
She did some several years ago, one about David,a nd one about the tabernacle, which I really liked a lot.

The women at our church are on our 3rd Beth Moore study. She has really lit a fire under us to study more of God's word. The difference in the lives of our women is amazing. We have never been more excited to learn about God. I had the privilage of hearing Beth in person in July. She was so humble and gave God all the glory. She really impressed me. My relationship with God is closer than ever. I would highly recommend any woman using her studies to learn more about the Word.

Were you just joking around in your first statement then? Sometimes, I think your humor goes right over my head.

I have read several of her books and our church did the study for the women about Breaking Free two years ago. I did not get to complete the study because my mom became seriously ill and I was called to take care of her during her last 6 weeks of life, during which time the Bible Study was completed. I really felt God working in my heart while doing that study and think I will pull it out and complete the study, starting at the beginning since it's been so long. It is a good study on how to break free of those past hurts and generational hurts if memory serves me correctly. I, personally, would highly recommend her studies to anyone - man or woman - though I understand most men are not interested in being taught by a woman for various reasons. I think it would be beneficial if a man rewrote her book for the male population because I know there are likely many men (hubby included) who could benefit from the same type of study to help them also break free of their past hurts.

Hello fellow Virginian! [IMG] Thanks for sharing that you are pulling out your Breaking Free study and finishing it. I will be praying for God to show you what He has for you to learn. If you think about it, remember me, too. We are on Week 3. God bless!!

The only thing I know is that if a man wants to get in some serious trouble with the ladies of his church, let him make a negative statement about Beth Moore. ;)

God is using Beth Moore in a tremendous way. What is truly funny about Beth Moore is how we SBCers often try to "justify" Beth Moore in light of our newly revised BF&M and controversial stance on women in ministry. Delve into the Beth Moore issue in SBC life and you will discover quickly that "dancing" is allowed in Baptist circles! :D
