In the recent thread on oral traditions and translations, it brought a thought to my mind.

    Remember Alexander Scorby?

    What a voice!

Decades ago, I had the whole Bible read by him on cassette, but it was stolen.

    Hope the folks enjoyed it.

I was wondering if any of you have a better choice for listening to the Scriptures.

Do you know which version the reading is taken?

When I went to the site, the pop up for blogging prevented further inquiry into different sections of the web page.

Max McLean does a fine job reading the KJV. You can listen to him by utilizing the audio function on websites or apps such as Youversion or Bible Gateway.

Scourby also read the old RSV as well as the KJV under the auspices of the American Bible Society. These both were originally released on 16-2/3rpm vinyl back in the 50s and 60s by the ABS.

Nowadays it seems almost impossible to find his RSV recordings — a shame, given that would be closer to the ESV than anything else.

Scourby was my go-to as well for some time.
Although now I have been using another KJV audio Bible, which is read in a very plain manner and the sound quality is quite clean:
