Goodness. Do you know how many classical piano pieces are syncopated? And symphonies, and even hymns? They are all over the hymn book. This is blowing my mind.

The more I think about this thread, I just cant understand the logic behind it. As a composer, its ludricous. The only thing I can even remotely relate to this heart beat stuff is that if you are going to conduct something "andante" (somewhere around a 72 marking) then you can take your pulse and often be close to the mark.

I love these hymns off the top of my head that are not exactly Common time:

    Comfort Comfort Ye My People
    Blessed Assurance
    Jesu, Jesu
Yes I'll Sing of My Redeemer (mixes meter)

But tater, it is not about the beats, but about the drums from those africans that some ungodly people play along with those beats..

It is time to call this what it really is... RACISM

How many times have you set through ignorant, fundamental ravings about how bad they are, because some missionary somewhere in Africa came back to the states and was dumbfounded becaues we now use the same type drums and beats these black heathen use in Africa.

I set through that garbage at least once a year growing up, and yeah the "heart beat" argument was in it also... along with the party that Aaron threw when Moses went to get the big 10!

I was taught that Drums were of the devil because blacks use them...
This of course came from "preachers' that taught that blacks didn't have souls. And were actually a form of monkey!

When I hear these type of arguments, I think of one thing, RACISM... That is what it is... ignorant people passing along racism from one generation to another, just because they heard an ungodly preacher "preach" on the evils of being black, and using drums...

It's time we grow up, and love people...
    Slavery is over.

Im not sure how this thread got off into rock music.......but please remember there are some of us who object to rock music and it has nothing to do with racism. I hope you all realize that not everyone who is against CCM and rock music is against it out of some sort of prejudice against black folk.

Some of us just believe rock music is wrong.....no matter who is making it up.

I too heard the arguments against rock because the beats came from heathen tribes........however, I never got anything racist out of it. THe emphasis was put on what those tribes were worshipping, not what color the people were. Im sorry that you went through such things, TinyTim.

Yes Bapmom, I do realize what you said is true. And I don't think everyone that is against CCM is racist...
But I have heard those comments.

And for what it's worth, Bapmom, the preachers that I grew up with that were racist were not even speaking about drums in CCM, but in Southern Gospel.

    CCM was another whole ballgame!!!

"thump, THUMP" vs "THUMP, thump" that is the question.

So, can anyone quote the passage where we are told that Adam's heart beat started with a "thump" or a "THUMP"?

Please note...Aaron didn't, and I think it was glossed over...

My response earlier in this thread was to the assertion that "I've heard no one teach that the it was the Africans who gave us rock." I showed a BB thread in which someone did assert that very thing.

Bapmom, I hold nothing agianst you for your views...I may disagree with them, but they are not based on racist leanings.

But a very few people do base theirs on that.

Scarlett just basically obliterated the "heartbeat" theory. That illustrates how important it is for pastors who preach to check their sources. We can lead people astray with bad information.

Sorry to contribute to the derailment...I'll post no more about music here.

The above article was written in 1999, so apparently this philosophy is still alive and well in our day today.

Mongrelization? You've got to be kidding me. I would like for him to tell me my kids are mongrels to my face. This stuff is disgusting, racist, and most importantly unbiblical. Men like this should not be allowed withing 100 yards of a pulpit.

I agree 100%. I am doing research now to refute this ungodly philosophy. As I search the internet, there is not much written against "Biblical" segregation. I am contemplating writing my doctoral thesis on the subject.

Ill just stand where God in his word stands...

    According to marraige:

    Leviticus 21:13-14
    (13) And he shall take a wife in her virginity.
    (14) A widow, or a divorced woman, or profane, or an harlot, these shall he not take: but he shall take a virgin of his own people to wife.

I am not saying this is NT doctrine, but I am willing to apply this to the teaching of my children.

I will admonish them to marry Virgins if they are ( praying they will be ) virgins also...if they have kept themselves pure and undefiled, they should also keep that high standard for choosing a mate. Also I will admonish them to marry within their race...easy now...I am NOT saying there is a doctrine of separation in the Word of God(not even in the KJV), but there is aome application you can make and that is where I stand.

2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

As for this scripture, also in marraige they need to look for one that is sold out for the cause of Christ, not just saved but holds the same high standards and convictions they hold too.

Also in freindships and fellowship do they need to seek out likeminded brethren for evil communications will corrupt their good behavior, white or black or any other color!

If that is your preference, fine.

Inter-racial marriage not a biblical issue. It is not addressed. I worry when it is addressed...it can turn into something other than a preference.

Brother, I don't think that you and God are standing in the same place. :saint:

    According to marraige:

    Leviticus 21:13-14
    (13) And he shall take a wife in her virginity.
    (14) A widow, or a divorced woman, or profane, or an harlot, these shall he not take: but he shall take a virgin of his own people to wife.

Whew!! You and your family are in for a tough time if you are going to apply the teachings of Leviticus 21 to yourselves!

Verses 13 and 14 are not talking about Jews marrying Jews. It's talking about Levites, specifically Levite priests marrying only Levite women. Not other Jewish women, such as Ruebenites or Simeonites. It has nothing to do with race or ethnicity. It has to do with marrying in the extended family or the same tribe.

And if you are going to apply verse 13 and 14 to your children, then you must apply the whole chapter to them. The rules for Levitical priesthood aren't independent of each other. It was the whole ball of wax or nothing. Therefore......

    • Your children cannot come to your funeral. (verse 10)
    • Your sons cannot be bald or shave. (verse 5)
    • If you do find that your daughters are sexually active, you must burn them alive!! (verse 9)
    • Your children must marry relatives, distant or close. (verse 15)
    • Your children cannot have any bodily defects. If they do, they cannot go to church with you. (verses 16-23) These defects specifically include vision problems, muscular/joint problems, broken nose, missing fingers or toes, hunched back, dwarfism, pimples, scabby skin, or imperfect testicles.
There's nothing wrong with that. In fact, that is scriptural. Fornication is a sin.

That's certainly your choice as a parent. You have a right to encourage them to marry within their own race, but I don't know how you do that, even very subtley and benignly, without making them despise other races.

And I'm not sure what you mean by "admonish".

You can't have an application without a doctrine.

And there is no application of biblical marriage within one's own race in Leviticus 21. Verse 13 and 14 aren't about race.

In fact, it's nowhere in the bible. I'm not saying that you shouldn't encourage your children to marry within their own race. That's your business and your decision. Most people do the same thing.

I'm just saying that you can't use the bible to do it.

OK...Since I hit a nerve with you miss Scarlett....I heard someone say one time, "...he shall take a virgin of his own people to wife..." and I like the sound of that.

So my "preference" is that my children marry a "white virgin"!

The first sentence here, should be brilliantly self-obvious.

It's amazing how many attempt the second sentence whne the first stands. I agree wiht these, Scarlett O.

Bobby, Sorry, don't automatically count me in as one of the audience in your avatar. I, for one, am not ever given to applause, when any one attempts to exalt preference into doctrine! AND I hear very few, speak of "my preferences" in most teaching situations.

Let's not ignore that we can be forgiven.

I hope and pray that my kids are pure when they are married.

Sex before marriage is a sin, and it makes for a real problem physically, relationally, an spiritually...

Having said that, if God leads my kid to a forgiven saint for a mate, and they have repented, been changed and transformed, and lived a holy life...I don't think they are "damaged goods" at all. Or if my kid, God forbid, is the one who falls...there are consequences for sin, but there is also forgiveness and grace as well.

Now it is true...if there has been sexual sin in the past, there are questions that should be asked...Is it truly in the past? Was there repentance? Is there accountability? And other questions that need to be answered as the couple gets to know one another, and especially as they are counselled.

Thank God for grace, and forgiveness.
