    Do you mean "close or closed communion" or "close or closed brethren"?

    Ah, thanks.

    I would be a big fan of close as opposed to either open or closed, I think.

    Same here. Open shows a lack of discernment and Closed shows the lack of appreciation for family ties. (My cousin comes over to the house right when me and my siblings were sitting down for a meal. I refuse to feed or share the meal with him because he's not my brother. You could well apply Paul's remark of judging me worse than a heathen.)

    I think OBs in practice practise close communion despite their name; Exclusives practise closed.

    Just in case you wanted to know:

    The Methodist Church merged with the Evangelical United Brethren April 23, 1968 forming the United Methodist Church. Some of the EUB churches refused to join and formed The Evangelical Church of North America.

    United Brethren's history is interesting:

    * 1st American denomination
    * Famous members: Francis Scott Key and the Wright Brothers.

    check out their website:

    In Australia, all the Open Brethren Churches are happy for anyone to take communion with them, yet the communion service is done as an earlier service before the main Sunday morning service,

    My (older) cousin is a retired Church of the Brethren pastor. They are fine with women pastors, many times divorced pastors and very liberal in their thinking. when he and his wife found out that our daughter was studying Women's Ministries, they thought that it meant that she was going to be a preacher and could not wait for her insight that God had given her to preach. They said that the Bible's stand against women preachers didn't count for today. He is still very active in the Brethren and quite high up, so he's not some side of the road Brethren.

    The local Church of the Brethern is big on child evangelism.
