Bumper Sticker

I developed my aversion to bumper stickers back in the '70's when "Honk if you Love Jesus" bumper stickers were popular.

I was a passenger in a car that had one and we got a HONK at a stop sign.

The driver didn't remember that she had the sticker on and got all irritated. :tongue3:

Since then I've come to consider bumper stickers a loose - loose proposition.

If you travel at the speed limit, people complain that you're driving too slow and curse at you.

If you travel at the "going rate" (faster than the limit), they say, look at that Christian speeding, what a hypocrite.

I liked the bumper sticker:

"Are you following Jesus this close?" :laugh:

I like that.

I don't have bumper stickers for two reasons:
To me, they seem like a underhand way to voice my opinion without allowing anyone else their say.
It makes it much easier for people to remember and identify my car, were I to do something I shouldn't have.

 

I'm not a great fan of religious bumper stickers, since of necessity they must be shallow, and many times are just plain theologically wrong.

That said, on occasion, one tickles my funny bone, as this one:

"Tithe if you love Jesus. Anybody can honk."

I know, I know, some of you don't believe tithing a New Testament princple, so let's not turn this into a debate.

Somehow this one just doesn't cut it on a bumper sticker:

"Give proportionately as God has blessed you (amount may vary, percentage may vary). Anybody can honk."

My favorite bumper sticker is: "Christians Are Not Perfect; Just Forgiven! Let none of us ever forget that simple truth, because those six words serve to remind us from where we first came, and that alone should be enough to HUMBLE even the best of us??

P.S. I don't put those things on my cars because they are so hard to get off. I mean, the glus/paste is bad news for the new painted car bumpers.

 

My wife has one that says

"exposure to the SON may prevent burning"

 

I liked one I once saw that read"

"Have A Nice Eternity!"

And I also like one I saw which reads:

"My Boss is a Jewish Carpenter"

That one is on the PU truck of one of the Deacons at my church, who works in construction.

We had a large Charismatic church that issued stickers to their membership. Soon after it was the talk of the town how every one running lights or was cutting people off had a "....." bumper sticker on the back. :tear:
