Please can someone help me with this problem ? I have recently bought a new computer and it is XP on here is a programme called Power producer(cyberlink), I understand that I should be able to make slide shows of photos and burn them to DVD to play on a DVD player. I have `made ` the show in the programme, and then gone as far as ````burning . The computer appears to be burning it to disc as a countdown bar shows..... but when I go to play it in the dvd drive it says `NO DISC INSERTED` I was told by a friend, that maybe I should erase/format the disc first, so I put a disc in to do this and it said again `NO disc inserted` what am I doing wrong?

the discs are supported by the programme and are called DVD-R 4.7Gb made by Infiniti

dvd-r are write only I think, you would not be able to erase it.

I would guess that it isn't burning to the disk or if it is, it isn't doing it right.

No Disc Inserted would indicate it is blank or corrupted to point of being unreadable.

Put the disk in, open windows explorer and see if there is anything on the disk - might give you hint as to what is going on.

Can the drive read other disks? Program disks, I mean? I'm wondering if the drive is working properly.

You may want to go to the program's manufacturer's website and download any drivers or patches for it. You may also want to go to your drive's manufaturer's website and download any firmware updates for the drive itself.

Go into Device Manager (Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager). Click on the "+" in front of "DVD/CD-ROM drives". Double-click on the entry for your DVD burner. If the Device Status section doesn't say "This device is working properly." then you have a problem with the drive.

And you could have a problem with it anyway if it won't read other disks. Post back what you can find out, and we'll go from there.

    You don't format CDs/DVDs.

What program are you trying to use to burn the DVDs? I use Nero and Alcohol 120% (http://www.alcohol-software.com/). Alcohol Soft has a 30-day free trial download.

We use nero to burn our personal stuff. When you are burning do you take out the DVD only after the burn is complete? Some programs will open the drive during the process, if you take the DVD out the burn is not complete. Also try another DVD. It is not uncommon for some DVD's to be damaged during packaging. We have had this problem, and then everything was fine if we used another DVD. I suggest you check all of your burn settings.

The other options there sre something like write to hard drive folder and....I forget the other one at the moment....but anyway if they are ticked instead of "Burn to disc" it will save the dvd files on computer instead of burning the disc.

And yet another thought just hit me as I was typing this. You said there is a countdown bar when the program burns, has the dvd drive got a light and is it flashing when it looks like the program is burning?

Thank you , do you think that may be the problem with this burning prog. as I was asked somewhere along the process whether I was going to need PAL etc. relating to where I am.
