    Yes, GCB.

    Great Commission Baptists.

SBC Now GCB "Great Commission Baptists"

"Southern Baptists embraced 'Great Commission Baptists' as an informal name....the option of Southern Baptists being known as 'Great Commission Baptists'...was approved by messengers at the SBC's June 19-20 annual meeting in New Orleans."

My understanding of scripture is that Paul is forbidding women to be those who take a position of leadership over men whether it includes teaching, song leading, etc.in the congregation. Indeed, the Greek term used by Paul has the idea to "stand in front" and thus conveys the idea of a position in front of men characterized by leadership.

There is no SBC or any other kind of convention organization found in Scripture. There is no hierarchy of administration above the congregation found in scripture. However, if man invents such an organization with such a heirarchy with regard to his churches it would fall under the same principles when it comes to leadership.

Isaiah states that it is a sign of moral cultural demise when a nation is led by women and children (Isa. 3:12). Of course, Isaiah's words would not be politically correct within our culture, however, in God's only established nation on earth it was the rule whereas the occasional exception to that rule (Deborah, etc.) fit the Isaiah narrative of "err" rather than acceptable and norm.

The Biblical rule is not about participation but about standing in front of the congregation or in a position of leadership over the men in the congregation. The command is not based upon cultural views and practices or upon traditions of men but it is always in every case based upon the creative order of God - Adam was created first in order and then Eve. It is based upon the relationship of Christ and the Church as represented under the marriage relationship between a husband and wife. The church is always in a submissive role and never in a leadership role over Christ.

Amazingly, those who oppose the Scriptural order can still see it clearly established in the home (Eph. 5:22-23) between the husband and wife but once the husband and wife enter the church door they think God has reversed it. So the SBC President woman PRESIDES over her husband if he sits in the convened SBC assembly but when she goes home he presides over her in the home - consistency is such a rare jewel.

So, yes it would a violation of God's Word to have a SBC woman President as she PRESIDES over the assembled leadership of its congregations.

Now, those who oppose the Biblical order and do so publicly in their teaching and debates will use all kinds of secular illustrations, and odd twisted Biblical examples that do not convey the doctrine of Scripture but only examples of twisted exegesis or examples of erring persons.

Why, if a woman is not so much as allowed to run the church bake sale if she might need to tell a man what time he should bring the cash box, does God fill women with the Holy Spirit, give them spiritual gifts and command them into the Great Commission?

It seems to me that in response to the current political climate, which is decidedly caustic, otherwise good Christians are losing sight. There is work in furtherance of the Kingdom to be done and God has given us all gifts, male and female both. God is the cause, and God is the reason.

Maybe instead of pushing women away from the Church, we should be seeking to explain to them where their Godly place is in it, because women are being called by God.

The only issue I see in your reasoning is viewing Paul's prohibition of women taking a leadership role over men as being in the context of the congregation and applying this to the Convention (which is not the congregation).

That said, I agree that men and women have different roles. I do not believe a woman could be (biblically) president of the Convention.

More than a half century ago, and some are still upset over this sort of thing?

    SBC Resolution Passed in 1964

"As in years past, our Convention has in this year been led by some of our ablest men and women. We are grateful to God for the dedicated leadership thus afforded us, and express our sincere appreciation to these leaders....We acknowledge with gratitude the leadership of Vice-Presidents Paul S. James and Mrs. R. L. Mathis. It is especially noteworthy that Mrs. Mathis is the first woman to serve as an officer of this Convention."

Some are drawn to apostasy no matter what....they turn from revealed truth and try and find obscure abberations and ungodly historical things...they are consistent in their rebellion.

SBC President [K. Owen] White, who had Marie Mathis preside at the 1964 annual meeting, was a Conservative! Tom Butler, whose expressed approval - posted on the BB just a few years ago - was cited in post #2, was also a Conservative.

Conservative SBC President K. Owen White had pastored Capitol Hill Baptist Church too. Perhaps some here have heard of that church?

Peoria (Illinois) school superintendent now presiding over the SEBTS Board of Trustees speaks out on women aspiring to denominational leadership: “They don’t need to put themselves or God in a box”:

    Biblical Recorder

"Becky Gardner....was recently elected to chair the board of trustees at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (SEBTS) in Wake Forest, N.C. The vote was unanimous. She is the first female to hold the chief trustee position at a Southern Baptist seminary, according to SEBTS."

"as superintendent of an award-winning Christian school in Central Illinois and the first-ever chairwoman of a Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) seminary’s board of trustees, she believes she is right where God wants her to be. 'I have the philosophy that if God opens the door, I need to walk through,' she told the Biblical Recorder in a phone interview."

"Peoria Christian School....which educates more than 600 students from preschool through 12th grade....has been named a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education twice in the last ten years for high test score performance. Gardner has been superintendent for six years."
