Calvin, Leading Church Planter in Europe
By 1555, Calvin and his Geneva supporters had planted five churches in France. Four years later, they had planted 100 churches in France. By 1562, Calvin’s Geneva, with the help of some of their sister cities, had planted more than 2,000 churches in France. Calvin was the leading church planter in Europe. He led the way in every part of the process: he trained, assessed, sent, counseled, corresponded with, and prayed for the missionaries and church planters he sent. Pete Wilcox, writing in a doctrinal dissertation cited by James, concluded that in the last 10 years of Calvin’s life, missions was his absolute preoccupation. One French church in Bergerac exulted to Calvin:

There is, by the grace of God, a movement in our region that the devil is already driven out for the most part and we are able to provide ministers for ourselves [churches were now able to start planting their own churches in the region]. Day to day, we are growing and God has caused his work to bear such fruit that on sermons on Sunday, there are between 4,000-5,000 people at worship.

Another letter from Montpellier rejoiced, “Our church, thanks to the Lord, has so grown and so continues to grow every day that we are obliged to preach three sermons on Sundays to a total of five- to six-thousand people.” A pastor in Toulouse wrote to the Genevan Consistory,“Our church has grown to the astonishing number of about eight- to nine-thousand souls.” Calvin and Geneva sent missionaries not only to France but also to Italy, the Netherlands, Hungary, Poland, and the free Imperial city-states in the Rhineland. We even know of two missionaries sent from Geneva in 1557 to Brazil. “Missions was not a ‘section’ of his systematic theology,” Keith Coleman says, “it was central to what he was trying to accomplish in his ministry.” Church planting and missions aren’t a byproduct of the young Reformed resurgence of the last decade but something embedded in the Reformation’s God-centered commitment to advancing the gospel.

I keep waiting to see "Calvin the pastor".

We seem so focused on the Institutions and Beza's work systematizing them that Calvin the theologian much too often overshadows Calvin the pastor.

That’s right. It’s not so much planting churches, it’s the spiritual intensity of ministry at those churches.
Millions came to one rural back water town in France to see John Vianney, a barely educated lowly priest.

He could tell people all the sins of their life and his simple powerful sermons brought countless numbers to belief in God again after the godless Revolutions damage.

Same with Father Paul of Moll, he regularly made people’s confessions for them, and explained all their sins in minute detail, and told them how to avoid them and live godly lives. No one could hide their sins from him.
He told many people when they would die and how to prepare themselves to meet the Lord.
Countless miracles of healing and conversion. He answered all the millions of letters and corespondents by himself from around the world, not even assistants could keep up with him, so he did it all on his own.
He sent letters back as one who knew their whole lives intimately and gave them present and future advice for situations and events that hadn’t happened yet.

This is ministry by The Spirit, human effort achieves nothing.

You don’t have to go far and wide, Jesus will bring people to you to Love and help them.

When you do handover to Jesus, He takes over and accomplishes far beyond anything you could do.

Be Jesus docile dumb donkey to direct as He wants, completely and utterly.

We are on training wheels, training to allow Jesus to do in us and for us. We always seem to get in His way and mess up.

Jesus will step back and allow you to try doing it yourself, only to remind you when you mess up that “ Without me you can do nothing “.

So practice involving Jesus in everything. Start each task praying ‘ I do this for love of you Jesus, you take over ‘.

God is very sensitive to Love any act of Love, and by these seemingly small tasks done throughout the days for love of Him, you draw very close to Him. And by your proximity to Him by Love, you dispense His blessings and help to others as if His trusted treasurer.

When you ask for something for others, ask in The Name of His Love.

After handover just go with the flow, allow Jesus to operate say and do.

Sometimes in ministry to others, you don’t know or remember what Jesus is saying to people, that’s between them and Jesus. Just be content to be that dumb donkey and be happy and remember the great privilege of being able to serve Jesus in the first place.

Desire to be exactly where Jesus wants you to be and make each mundane task of life and act of Love for Him. Take joy that even in these small things, you are precisely where God’s Will wants you to be.
Offer you sufferings, miseries, disappointments, your joys, and even the corporeal enjoyment of your food for love of Him.

Love contains everything your soul wants to say to Him, it is Praise, thanksgiving and Worship. Love is the greatest.

Things done with Love flourish because Love is Eternal and it’s effects are Eternal.
“ All things work together for good, for them that Love the Lord “

In planting and ministry we must be filled with Love, the Love that only closeness to Jesus gifts us.

It is Love that directs us to plant and minister and bear fruit. Love sets fire to the earth, real ministry is the out growth of Love.

We are dirt poor in Love, we can only appropriate it from the source of Infinite Love.
Love is a Person, Jesus. Without Love you can do nothing.

That is why it is so important to do handover to Jesus before you undertake anything. “ If the Lord does not build the house, then in vain do the builders labor “.
I have seen the huge difference between my work and Jesus work. My efforts are a complete joke out there.

You will see it happen after handover. Many times asking Jesus to takeover in just ordinary work, I’ve looked back stunned at what Jesus did. I honestly knew it was not me that did it, it was Jesus that did it. It was the Lord’s work, and a marvel to our eyes.
Use the mundane things of life to let Jesus do, He wants to be involved in everything.

If Jesus can trust us to get out of His way in these small things, greater things He can do through us just as easily. He has all the Love, Power and Understanding to make everything new and fruitful and do things perfectly.

Once you experience Jesus working like this through you, your joy will be from your very deepest part, like you have finally understood and realised the full purpose of your existence.

This is the Joy that none can take away from you. When you have Jesus you have everything.
