My computer (windows `98) has a problem with the CD/DVD rom drive . When I ran Norton disc doctor for diagnosis of the fault the following errors were quoted - NO DISC IN DRIVE - there was a disc in there...... also the following SCSI Error 6400H - I don`t know what this means , can anyone help.
    Gwyneth
PS If you can help, please use `words of one syllable ;) ` as I find some of the terminology used when talking about these contraptions way out of my realm [IMG]

It could be that the controller or CD drive is broken. The drive controller (SCSI- called 'scuzzy') doesn't see the disk. So either the controller itself or the disk drive is faulty. How old is this machine?

    Hi all,
The machine is 4-5 years old. It will read all but DVD , it reads `home made ` CDs with photos etc, and other programme discs, but not DVD  I have reinstalled DVD from master disc ............. don`t know what is wrong with the thing
I never bothered with this facility (DVD) until my grand daughter wanted to play one of her films.
If any one has a clue to what it is , I would be most grateful, the man in town who fixes such things wants £200 to `overhaul it` ...bit costly

Have you tried using a laser cleaner on it?

CD/ DVD Lens Cleaner is what hubby uses. It looks just like a DVD and you put it in and let it play. Best Buys, Radio Shack, etc. will have them IF you have those stores.
It might be something that simple. You should clean them at least twice a year he said. Maybe it's something that easy.
