    No assumptions, nothing unanswered.

    You cannot deny that those who were cut out were both in the tree to begin with, and were unbelievers.

    This is the assertion that I and all those who believe in salvation assurance and eternal security make: that only unbelievers are cut out, cut off, and burned.

    Those who are born-again will not fall away, we are saved forever.

    Praise God our Savior.

    God bless.

    Where does it indicate in the OT that God will lay aside the Israelites and give his blessings to the Gentiles? Is this what you are asking?

    Isaiah 28:9-16 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.
    10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:
    11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.
    12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.
    13 But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.
    14 Wherefore hear the word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that rule this people which is in Jerusalem.
    15 Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:
    16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.

    Verses 11 and 12 are quoted by Paul in 1Cor.14:21,22. The stammering lips and "another tongue" refer to the "tongues" or foreign languages of Pentecost and the gift of tongues or languages that was present in the first century. It was a sign to the unbelieving Jews that God had set them on the shelf and that now the message of God had been given to the Gentile believers. It was a last chance; a last warning. They knew about it this warning, this prophecy that was written here. It came to pass and they ignored it. The judgement fully came to pass when Titus destroyed Jerusalem in 70 A.D.
    God spoke through the Gentiles through other languages, something that the Jews would abhor. To be given God's message by Gentile message would be worse then eating pork. It was an abomination to them. Remember that they wouldn't even enter their houses, much less to listen to God's holy message from them. And yet this was God's warning to them that they would no longer be God's chosen nation. He would turn to the Gentiles instead. And so he did.

    1 Corinthians 14:21-22 In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.
    22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.
    --Verse 21 is a quote from Isaiah 28.

    DHK, this was my question. It comes up often. It is assumed because they rebelled that they were rebellious from the start, but Scripture does not indicate that as so, and as a matter of fact flatly refutes such a position. One such passage is found in
    Jer 2:3. “ Israel was holiness unto the LORD, and the firstfruits of his increase: all that devour him shall offend; evil shall come upon them, saith the LORD.
    4 Hear ye the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel:
    5 Thus saith the LORD, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?”

    Note carefully that they were holiness unto the Lord. They went astray from the Lord. It does not indicate in the least they were always astray as some have claimed such as Darrell.

    The second passage that comes to mind is found in 1Cor. 10. “1 ¶ Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
    2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
    3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
    4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
    5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
    6 ¶ Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. “

    Note carefully that they did ALL eat the same spiritual meat and ALL drank the same spiritual drink, YET some were overthrown. It is clear that they were in Christ at one time but were cut off due to their lusting after evil things. This was written for our admonition that the same end of being overthrown by God may not be our end.

    These passages go absolutely contrary to any notion of OSAS just as Romans 11 and many others as well.

    You haven't proved anything. You have only demonstrated that within Israel (as has been noted in Romans 11) were unbelieving Jews. That actually strengthens the case for OSAS. Jews that were never saved from the beginning never believed from the beginning. Is that hard to understand.
    Take two examples.
    Abraham believed God and it was counted unto him for righteousness. One could say that his works demonstrated that he was saved.
    On the other hand, the Word of God declares that Lot also believed and was declared righteous. But what kind of life did he live? He offered his two virgin daughters to a mob of homosexuals to be abused all night. He not only lived but was a judge of a city full of Sodomites, a very wicked city, so wicked that the wickedness of that city tainted him. Yet God still declared him righteousness even though outwardly his life was no different than those around him.

    Salvation does not come from works. It is by faith and faith alone.

    Good point. The Bible never argues that any Jew living gets their "life" their source of strength or eternal life - from Abraham.

    It is always said to come from God - and as you point out above - specifically from the Messiah.

    Thus the BELIEVING Gentiles and the BELIEVING Jews of Romans 11 all derive their life from the SAME source - Christ. And they "stand only by their faith" such that the loss of faith results in "being removed" just as Paul stated in Romans 11.

    But there is GOOD news!!

    "HE is able to RESTORE THEM AGAIN - IF they do not continue in unbelief"

    As soon as they ceased to stand by their faith - they were cut off - they were removed from the olive true - individual by individual.

    Paul's goal in Romans 11 was to "save some of them".

    This is all individual work. Individuals choose to retain faith or give it up - and individuals choose to either continue in unbelief or to turn back again to a position of faith.

    Paul is clear on that in Romans 11 -- thus the warning he gives to believing Gentiles in is clear for he tells them "you stand only by your faith" and then warns them that they (who stand only by their faith) are to "Fear for if He did not spare them neither will He spare you".

    some here have suggested the wild idea that unbelieving Jews are removed and are replaced by even MORE unbelieving godless pagans involved in idolatry and not choosing Christ at all. Such an extreme "all for OSAS" solution makes total mush out of the text of Romans 11.

    in Christ,

    Bob

    This fits well with what Paul says about Timothy who even from childhood - before learning about Jesus as the true Messiah - was saved.

    It also fits well with the list in Heb 11 - all of whom lived before time of the Christ - none of whom ever heard the name "Jesus" and yet all of whom were saved by the ONE Gospel - as Christians.
