You are the one who brought up the fact that your wife is intoxicated, not me.

What is this 'old fashioned way' you speak of?

Reach for this instead of a bottle

    I Peter 5:6-7

Humble yourselves therefore under God's mighty hadn, the HE may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on HIM because HE cares for you.

In the Greek text you provided a while ago, there's a little particle me, which means NOT, and when put before paroinon, we have NOT given to much wine.

Strong's is NOT a Greek NT; it's a dictionary.

Alcohol is not a good and perfect gift. It is not from God. Don't even lower yourself to accuse God of giving that drink which His Word declares is a poison.

So, it is "not given to wine" right?

Not exactly: mh, "not," but paroinos is an intensive form.

oinos is the simple Greek word for wine, but with par shortened form of the preposition para, "with," alongside of," added on it has been intensified to mean much wine.

So, "Not given to much wine" is a faithful translation or "Not addicted to wine."

We have never allowed the use of acohol with the exception that a very few churches use real wine for communion. The use of acohol will bring expulsion.

Just this Christmas I ate a cake that a member made for our family--it was a Rum Cake.

No, we are not SBC, they were too liberal for us to join. We are Old Regular Baptist.

I can find every word except the "much" you have in your translation, I can't find it.

    Look in your Strong's:

oinos is the common word for wine.

para + oinos is an intensive form, meaning "much wine."

Well, there you have it. 20 pages of self-righteous condemnation and name-calling.

Fun. I am truly sorry I allowed this thread beyond post #1. The topic is hateful and demeaning and I should have snipped it immediately.

I will watch for more such threads and ask any to hit the moderator alert, please, if another thread like this begins.

Thread closed. And a personal note forthcoming a couple posters who may not be around much longer.

    :(
