Toronto, Canada Monday, December 19, 2005 - On December 2, the Liberal candidate for Mississauga-Erindale, Omar Alghabra, made his victory speech after winning the nomination. In that speech, he reportedly exhorted his audience, "This is a victory for Islam! Islam won! Islam Won! ... Islamic power is extending into Canadian politics".

Alghabra's victory speech was delivered to an audience of several hundred in the Coptic Christian Centre of the Church of the Virgin Mary and St. Athanasius in Mississauga.

David Ragheb, a member of the congregation, reported that following Alghabra's victory speech, Markham Councillor Khalid Osman took to the stage and declared, "We have the east, we have the west, and now we have Mississauga!" to cheers and applause from the audience. Ragheb also reported that Rogers Cable was present throughout and may have filmed the event. "A member of parliament is supposed to represent my concerns about taxes and roads in Mississauga, not promote an Islamic agenda," said Ragheb....

In Islam, the idea of separation of chruch and state does not exist.

It looks like this is pretty big talk in the riding right now. We will be having an election in January and it will be interesting to see if negative reaction to that poor choice of words will cause the Liberals to lose another GTA (Greater Toronto Area) seat.

In the last election it was won by Liberal Carolyn Parrish who got kicked out of the Liberal party for a number of things, including derogatory comments about George Bush.

Unfortunant, but it's still "a victory for Islam".

Reports that a video of the speech supports Gold Dragon's assertions.

    Also this...

Omar Alghabra is entrenched in Muslim politics in Canada. He is a former president of the Canadian Arab Federation, which created the non-profit organization "Canadians for Jerusalem" and which claims to have over 30 NGO members. He is also involved in Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights.

This should be easy to verify. Any takers ?

I do not feel guilty for putting this up here. It is a newsworthy item.

Bro. Curtis, It is not your fault if it turns out to be false. Like I say, it is still a victory for Islam.

I thank you for bringing it to my attention. But we do need to keep in mind the credibility of our sources.

I read the comments section on the initial link you provided and the claim now according to the CCD is that the comments were made informally after the speech.

It does look like Markham Councillor Khalid Usman (who I voted against when I used to live in that area) did make some inappropriate comments on the stage before Mr. Alghabra's speech and should be reprimanded for them.

Anyway, I'll be interested to see if Mr. Alghabra wins this riding in the coming election.

The Democrat and Republican Parties in the U.S. have been known to nominate some rather fringe candidates as well, not to mention who some of the minor parties have nominated.
