    No, it is real. Way before my time, but believe the voters of the 1932 election did not agree.

    And here is an excerpt from an article describing Ohio Sen. Robert Taft-R, describing his platform for re-election in 1938:

    He condemned the New Deal as socialist and attacked deficit spending, high farm subsidies, governmental bureaucracy, the National Labor Relations Board, and nationalized health insurance.
