Catholics and confession?

    On another thread someone stated that for Catholics going to confession is a free pass to sin.

    That causes me to wonder...

    Why isn't the "sinners prayer" and "being saved" then also a free pass to sin?

    With the difference that "being saved" is a lifetime pass.
