If you include the AAF, you would have to agree that the C-47 tops them all for sheer longevity. The AF still had a few flying when I was in.

I believe the first ones came off the line in the late 30s.

And "honorable discharge" does not mean that the person receiving one was never AWOL. A lot of people were given nonjudical punishments for being AWOL, and still got honorable discharges.

Even those who didn't have powerful politicians running interferance for them.

However, as you know, there was no "article 15 punishment" in the TANG. The TCMJ provides for nonjudicial punishment including a suspension of pay or duties. Which is what happened to Bush. Further, the TCMJ defines AWOL as one absenting one's self when ordered to appear, which is what happened when Bush declined to appear for an ordered physical.

That year, the AF began checking pilots for cocaine use. Each pilot had as part of his physical, an examination of nasal passages. That might explain why he didn't show, since Bush has indicated he hasn't used cocaine since a later date than that.
