Congress has had a paid Chaplain since 1789 execpt
for a short period in the late 1850s

Here is a govt link about Chaplains in the US Congress

Currently two men are appointed Chaplains for Congress - 1 for the Senate and one for House. Would it be a problem if Congress decided to go on a rotating basis (say monthly) for Chaplains - and that rotation included a Muslim?

For example, here is Mark (9Marks) Dever reading a prayer before the Senate, followed by a tribute to him by his sponsor, liberal Republican Mark Hatfield:

Paul Dixon, president of Cedarville University, April 25, 2002:

"Our Father, we praise You today as the Sovereign God of the universe. We bow before You, the Creator God: the God who demonstrated Your great love for us in that while we were yet sinners, Your Son died for us. Though a young nation, You have smiled upon America. The only way to explain our great country is You. Truly, God, You have blessed America. Thank You for Your sustaining grace since September 11. Our enemies meant it for evil, but You have used it for good and for Your glory. We cast ourselves on You for those who lost loved one and continue to mourn. I especially thank You for those dedicated men and women who gather today to do our nation’s business. They serve us, the people, and are Your servants. Please continue to grant strength and wisdom to President Bush and to these women and men in the House. Today we exalt You and long for Your approval. In the name of our Lord. Amen."

Joel Osteen, pastor of Lakewood Church, April 4, 2012:

"Father, we thank You that You show Your goodness and Your favor to the United States of America and to those who govern it. We ask that You bless this House of Representatives and each Member who serves in it. Help these lawmakers to search their hearts so that they may serve with dignity and honor and that through them our Nation will achieve the destiny that You have set before us. Give them wisdom as they make good decisions, courage that they will hold fast to Your truth, and compassion that all should prosper from their laws. We receive Your presence here today. Father, we pray that these lawmakers will remain mindful of You and that they will honor You in everything they do here. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen."
