    I never mentioned dancing or lottery tickets so your imagination is taking off rather quickly.

    Probably for you the book of 1 Confusions. Apparently being around teenagers has diminished your capacity for mature considerations. Ah well, next please!

    Amazing - simply amazing. A discussion on chewing gum in church has turned into a petty squabble.

    I really thought I had seen it all.

    Well maybe we can return to the topic at hand and ignore the pettiness and all? EH?

    I do not like cud-chewers when I preach.

    I have no problem with subtle, quiet, discrete chewing.

    Isn't that one requirement for kosher chewing?

    I have chewed gum in church before, and I know my mom does just about every Sunday. It's not something I do all the time, but right now I'm quitting smoking, so you may catch me with some gum from time to time. I think as long as you're not blowing bubbles or pulling the gum out of your mouth looking for a place to stash it, you're probably okay. :laugh:

    I just wonder what people think about the fact that I finished my cup of coffee in church this morning...I promise I didn't drink any while we were praying. I just didn't get it finished in Sunday School like I usually do, and I'm pretty sure it is against Baptist rules to waste coffee! :laugh: :saint:

    Remember, Acts 17:24

    "(AX)The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is (AY)Lord of heaven and earth, does not (AZ)dwell in temples made with hands; 25nor is He served by human hands, (BA)as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things;

    I'll let you figure out how this applies :)

    Having said that, thanks for bringing to my attention that this actually bothers people. No one has ever told me, and I have been one of those 'cud chewers' for the past two years. Maybe I need to make a public apology during testimony time, and explain to the church how God has been dealing with my heart, and after much wrestling, I have decided to give up my sinful gum chewing ways.

    Well, if the Lord has truly dealt with your heart about this and you feel that you. need to confess it before the church then you probably should do so to keep you conscience pure.

    I'm sorry c4k, but I have a hard time expressing satire. I meant this as a joke, because I couldn't believe the emphasis that was being placed on this questionable practice. In all honesty, I'm not going to chew gum in corporeate worship anymore. I don't want to distract. But it is, IMO, silly, kind of up there with certain haircuts on men, no facial hair, etc.

    Thought that was the case - been around young folks A LONG time :).

    As I said - I only don't like the obvious, rude, popping, cud chewing. If it is quiet and discrete I don't have a problem.

    And I would think that none of us who are part of the pro-gum lobby would make the argument that what you described is acceptable during church.

    I'll tell you what gets to me the most. When there is a group of people around a little child or baby during church and they are playing with it and laughing with it and talking to it the entire service. Now that is a pet peeve for me. The baby will still be a baby for a good long time after church is over. Play with it then.
