Some of the bands used profanity in their lyrics and band names.

Totally inappropriate for a church setting. Somebpdy in the church should've been all over this.

Of course, I'm suspicious that there's an ulterior motive to this post that has nothing to do with the events in Albany, NY.

Which is at its foundation the very cause of most of the vehement rhetoric on this baord.

Here's a quote by one of the ministers in charge of this event:

"You can't confine religion to one book or procedure," said Hartwell, who provides books on Christianity and other world religions, as well as art objects and drawings, as part of the "Artists All-Faith Center" in the church." SOURCE

Sounds like they think all paths lead to God.

Their problems go deeper than just profanity...sounds like "the main thing" isn't anymore.

Maybe another church in Albany will reach out to these kids with the Good News.

It seems to me that too many people who want what God offers also want to hang onto the world at the same time. They're trying to hold onto the world with one hand and onto God with the other. Instead of "come out from among them, and be ye separate", it's "Let's bring the world into the churches to make it more interesting for people."

As a call to holiness, I agree with you wholeheartedly.

But we must also take care to not define being "separate" as simply conforming to a certain stylistic format. Let's always define "worldly" as God would define it, and avoid defining it by personal preference.

I'm not sure, but His definition has got to have the word "spandex" in there somewhere!

Sorry, but I just couldn't help myself. I'm just pickin' at you, James.:saint: :type:

These are questions one must ask on their knees. Another one of the items that I can, but should I........if I ask God directly, would He?

Sometimes it is not a question of chapter nd verse, but an inner sense of what is divine edification.

    Cheers,

    Jim

When they start creating worldly music I can actually understand the words, I might start listening again!

    The article stated:
"Hats off to the Albany police for shutting down this unspeakable mess."

And I say "AMEN". I normally don't like police doing that kind of thing (shutting down a "Christian" event) but, my gosh, somebody has got to reclaim the sanity. If the churches don't have enough Bibilical discernment to shut that junk down then I thank God for that police department. I think some circles of the evangelical "church" has gone crazy in recent weeks.

not disagreeing with you...except that from some of the quotes from the minister that I saw, I'm not sure how "evangelical" this church really was...

I believe that most of us on this board would agree that this trash should not be allowed in the church.

Just one question: Are we setting a dangerous precedent when the police defines what is and is not a church event?

Jim, here is the article from the address in the OP.

    July 18, 2006 03:40 PM
Police Shut Down Church Rock Concert

It will be called persecution. Just wait. Police in Albany, New York broke up a rock concert at Trinity Methodist Church and summoned the pastor to court for running an illegal nightclub. Seems the church youth group was taking donations at the door which the police viewed as a cover charge. "An organ concert is a church event. This is not a church event," stated the highly discerning police chief. The church youth music nights, called New Age Cabaret, includes bands like Drown Retarded Children and Clitorture (which has a lovely song called "Why Won't Jesus Die" that starts like this: "Why won't Jesus [expletive] die? Hopelessly turning the pages, the good book of lies. Your moral guide to a self-righteous life. Knees pounded into the dirt, free will has died. In the palm of God's hands, you're wasting your life. Slaughter the lamb. Worship the goat. Pry the Lord's hands away from your throat. Before I pray, I'll slit my own wrists. Religion of hate, to each his own scorn. All these years of worship have left you with nothing."

Wow, that's some theology. John Wesley would be real impressed.

For obvious reasons, neighbors were just plain fed up with the church music nights. Colleen Ryan said, "You've got a herd of kids standing out there with spikes and studs and what look like prison tattoos," she told the paper. "We are trying to promote the city as a good place to live in and raise children in."

The church has now become a detriment to quality of life in Albany. As I have said before, the so-called (counterfeit) church is not fit for the dunghill, it is the dunghill.

Hats off to the Albany police for shutting down this unspeakable mess.

I don't detect much "Christian" about the event from the article.

As I posted in a link earlier, the minister who ran this thing seems to advocate an "all paths lead to God" approach:

Ya'll know that I'm not necessarily against innovation...but, um, Jesus IS the only way, madam minister.

Like I said, I hope someone will reach out to these kids and share God's love and His plan with them. Wish I was in Albany...I'd be there now.

    Matthew 7:22
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
