That's what I'm saying. The church I used in the OP as an example basically has 3 armed men (in uniform if memory serves) weilding the shotgun in hand or hanging in front of them. You have to pass through a gate with a makeshift door to be let in. I just got a weird impression from that point on.

SO - You are in the kitchen cutting up a rack of ribs with a large knife and a man comes in and starts attacking your wife. You just stand there and watch?

    No.

1st..I would imedietly, in a split second, place the entire situation into Gods providential care.

Simultameously, I would then do everything humanly possible to get my wife away from the guy and then get him out of the house. I would then call the police and give them his descripsion. I would not have tried to kill the guy because we are not to kill. I would not have shot him because I have never owned a gun. But he would be out of the house.

And by the way, my wife was in complete agreement with us not having a gun in the house.

...and IF I would have gone completly "out of my senses" in my rage, and accidently killed the guy, I would take it to God and would recieve Gods wonderful forgiveness.

So, he will just run out of your house? Hate to tell you but in many cases, you would be injured as well. A man breaking in and attacking your wife would not just give up.

If you were not such an idiot you would know that you do not protect property using deadly force. You only use deadly force to counter deadly force.

There is no amount of money in the offering to kill, or be killed, over.

However, if that person or persons puts the lives of our members at immediate risk, then it would be not only acceptable, but required, for a Christian to use deadly force to protect those people including the aged, infirm, and very young.

In fact, in my opinion, the man who would NOT defend those who cannot defend themselves, is nothing but a coward and a disgrace to the Name of Christ.

    Tcassidy...

My previous posts make clear that I would indeed give all to protect them.

But we are not to kill.

Have you forgotten the Amish a year or 2 ago? And the tremendous testimomy they showed to the entire world? (I am not amish btw. I am Baptist.)

My husband is a concealed weapons permit holder, as are several other
men in the church. (We live in rural Colorado, where it is odd if a man doesn't own a gun.)

After what happened in the church on the Front Slope, I am GLAD we
have carriers in the church. I don't want my Pastor shot while he
is preaching by some drug-crazed lunatic.

Take heed, those of you who don't think it can happen!!!

well, we have one active police officer that is a member, and one
active sheriff deputy that attends also, not a member yet...

but those fellas do shift work just like this dispatcher does, so
it is nice that other members have concealed weapon permits.

You have to take a class here before you can conceal. I took it,
but I don't carry. I can shoot with the best of em, but I
    am getting old.

We are commanded not to commit MURDER.

Someone is attacking your wife and it is highly likely she will die.
You cannot defend her, as you yourself are restrained.
Your neighbor can shoot and kill her attacker.
Would you tell your neighbor to lay down his gun?

IMO, the show of force, at a church or anywhere else, should only be to the degree needed, based on the circumstances.

If it isn't likely, on a given day, that violence would happen, then a show of force isn't needed. That is the case at our church. While it can happen one Sunday morning, there's no need to advertise the fact that some of our members have concealed weapons. Or that we have police officers sitting in the pews (members of our church).

If it's somewhat likely, then a modest show of force, IMO, is all that's needed. Just enough to give those who would do violence a second thought that's the wrong place to attempt it. Perhaps, just a marked police car parked on the property is enough. And/or uniformed security person(s) visible from the street, but not standing at the entrance.

If it's highly likely, then do whatever is needed, in terms of showing force to protect the assembly of worshippers. That includes check points, shotguns, assault rifles and anything else that would deter those determined to commit murder in the house of God.

Those in the house of God are to go out and spread the gospel to those without Christ and then bring them into God's house. It isn't the other way around. Sit in God's house and wait for them to come. Yes, armed forces at the gate may prevent a few potential converts from entering. On the other hand, if the congregation is dead (murdered), who's left to go out and share the Good News?

Perhaps the armed guards 'at the gate' (as described by the OP) would have saved those two lives by preventing/deterring him from ever entering the building to begin with.
