I think as long as you don't drop the moniker, you'd be OK to post. That is, you'd still call yourself a baptist.

The Christian Reformed Church has the same problem. New congregations and some old ones want generic "Christian" foo-foo names. The theory is that denominations frighten people?

    Greetings Jim,

I trust that you are well. Without veering too far off topic, could you give me a quick explanation for this statement? Not intending to argue, just curious as to what you mean.

    Regards,
    BiR

    just another dodge

Ok I give up. I have heard this for some time now especially within my Baptist denomination. The truth in what ever format resides with the desire to separate or better yet distance a fellowship away from those far right conservatives. I will freely admit we spend more time trying to fit everybody and in the end we forget who we are. All believers will offend this present world and there is no escaping that axiom. I do believe all believing Churches need to simply stay focused on the message of Christ and the salvation that He alone can provide.
The greatest problem we face in the Church today is trying to make people feel good and o please forgive me if we offend in word. The fact is so very simple God’s Word will offend. The world lives by the lie and if we dare proclaim the counsel of God there is no way we can make the world at large happy.
Whatever excuse fits today many churches simply want to get along and grow numerically. Call it by any other word it still smells like surrender. I have watched too many churches distance themselves from associations for all the reasons you could imagine but the one that keeps coming back over and over is we believe too strongly in the Word of God. Many of the very same churches have and are supporting the Baptist colleges that moved to execute their own MDIV programs because our seminaries are way too fundamental for their taste. I’m so glad that is true. For me the change that took place at my seminary was like a breath of fresh air. New professors actually believe and teach God’s Word as fact and not fiction. O boy, I truly rejoiced and will continue to rejoice for the fact students are now being challenged with truth not hypothesis. The Churches may in fact begin to regain their spiritual strength in the days to come. We can only pray to that end.

    Hi, BIR,

Just giving the "other" reason Baptists are not Protestants.....the landmark viewpoint...existed long before the Reformation.

    Cheers,

    Jim
