Would anyone know if there exists a list of church email addresses, like a directory, but in list form? I would like to contact churches in a type of bulk mailing(?), but can't seem to get a bulk list. All are indiviual.

This is going to come out sounding wrong, so please forgive me in advance.

I'm personally against bulk e-mailing. It's too much like SPAM. If you're offering a service, or goods, then it is SPAM. If you're a missionary or evangelist, then I can take a step back and say at least it's for a good cause.

I'm not aware of any list that's currently out there. The way the spammers do it is acquire software that "mines" e-mail addresses from websites and creates a bulk mailing list. That's why it's a good practice to avoid putting any e-mail addresses in your web pages. You can probably do a search on Google or one of the other search engines to find the software.

I went so far as to insert some code that puts a couple of dozen or so fake e-mail addresses on my web page, just to mess with the spammers.

Don is right. Even if you list your email address on a site such as this one the web-crawlers can get your email address. They are amazingly sophisticated and aren't stupid, they can drill down through the top layers of your site and will follow any and all links, including links to different posts and profiles on a bulletin board. If a company wants to register on a bulletin board and set their crawler loose on the site, it can mine a ton of stuff.

Don't think that crawlers are created by super-geniuses either. You can create a simple web crawler with VisualBasic that can do a LOT!

    Safeguard everything!

Just as an example I decided to hack into this BB and find out as much as I could about Don (the poster before me in this thread). I got his IP address, then hacked into his computer and then reversed the polarity on his monitor so I could actually see him. He was picking his nose at the time so I quickly logged off. :D

  5. We are looking at several different accounting software packages for our church. We would really like one that tracks visitations, membership info as well as accounting. We want it all inclusive - no importing to an accounting software package like QuickBooks. And we need it under $500 if possible. Even that's pushing the envelope a bit!!

I can't wait weeks or months for a free version - though I love the idea of putting one together.

Here's a list of what I've found so far. All suggestions, comments or recommendations are welcome!

hi there, it is spam to send unsolicited emails, but you can buy mailing lists from people who have chosen to recieve special mailings. also called opt-in mailing lists.
