.................As a junior National Security Council staffer in 1975-76, I watched as some of the government's most to sensitive files were turned over to Congressional Committees and released to the public with much fanfare. What the public didn't know were the consequences of the CIA witch hunt: foreign intelligence services suddenly stopped sharing information with us, foreigners who spied for us were assassinated when their names were made public, U.S. intelligence personnel suddenly became risk averse bureaucrats instead of cunning intelligence gatherers.

The result? America's intelligence services, which had always relied on both high tech and human intelligence to figure out what our adversaries were doing, were eviscerated. The consequence? We never saw the growth of the Islamic jihad movement and, even worse, we didn't see Al Qaeda coming.........

I agree that prosecutions might be going too far (although that point is moot), but certainly the placing of the worst abuses of the Bush Administration into the public domain is a timely move and means that Americans can hold their heads high and proud to the rest of the world once again. Now if only the UK government can follow suit, we might be able to lift our heads from the shame we have...

Who is this 'he'? This is about a 'they' and, specifically, torture allegations and other human rights violations made against CIA operatives.

He, they, whomever. Either way you stated these allegations to be fact. Where is your proof of your claim that it is fact?

    Abu Ghraib isn't a fact? Guantanamo isn't a fact?

Abu Ghraib is not a result of the Bush admin. There have been no abuses at Guantanamo.

I'll go ahead and say it then. They threatened the lives of the terorists. They used methods that the present administration thinks are torture. I don't care. Say all you want, but they did what they had to do to get information that has kept us safe for the last 8 years.

I won't be back in this discussion because the people arguing about it will be the ones who are not at the sharp point of the spear and only stand by the sideline jeering at those who have to make and carry out the hard decisions.

So you're prepared to stoop to the level of your enemies? Then you've already handed them the victory...

Sometimes I wonder whether this is a Christian website at all...

The critics would opt for three thousand people dead in a falling and burning tower rather than deprive terrorists sleep or make them feel like they are drowning. Such nonsense can only come from a desire to protect them, most likely a result of some form of sympathy to their cause.

At least Truman was honest with "The Buck Stops Here" as opposed to "The Buck Never Stops Here" that you are defending. This was a typical tactic of the Bush Administration.

I find Revmitchell's signature and just-want-peace's board name extremely ironic in the light of their comments on this thread.

Another Obama lie, but then the economic news is kinda depressing right now.

And Obamacare is in trouble, so...

even though this has already been thoroughly investigated, it might make a useful distraction.

Well, to each his own, but I do find that doing what needs to be done to stop another 9/11 to be far more "peaceable" than being "nice" to "them", and looking good in the eyes of the rest of a pagan world!

IOW I'm far more concerned about saving of American lives (or other innocents), than I am about America's reputation to so many who willingly accept hand-outs from the USA and then constantly grumble over how we protect this nation; and in some cases many other parts of the world!!

Just because I desire peace, does not mean that I desire "PEACE AT ANY COST"! As most conservatives already know, (and I'm thinking most people do, but they aren't up to putting their money where their mouth is) FREEDOM AIN'T FREE!!!

If the libs had had the power & mindset way back in '41, that they now have, the USA would probably be speaking Japanese today while Europe & Russia would be conversing in German.

So all y'all can thank some brave service men & women, who considered freedom more important than being nice to the enemy, for the rights you have today! To wit, to gripe & grumble about those who today still give much - & some all - so you can continue your Monday morning quarter-backing with out fear of reprisal.

Be assured, that if the liberals succeed in taking complete control, as they are wont to do, your complaining and criticism will be dealt with in a far more effective method than just "WORDS"!

There are already trends in that direction today with such liberal garbage as the fairness doctrine, sending questionable health care e-mails to the WH, and the characterization of the "tea party" crowds as "nazis", just to list a few.

Either you can dump blind loyalty and discern enough to read the handwriting, or you can blithely skip along totally oblivious to the chasm this country is hell-bent to crash into.

As the old saying goes, "THERE ARE NONE SO BLIND AS THOSE WHO WILL NOT SEE".

I am not sure whether it is hatred of President Bush or hatred of this country, or both, that motivates this country but it is certain that some would like to destroy the Republic as constituted hoping a United Socialist States of America would rise from the ashes.

If no crimes were committed, then an investigation will show this to be the case. However...

I respect President Truman for having the "guts" to use the nuclear bombs in WWII. I believe history will be appreciative of that fact as long as leftists wimps are not writing it. However, he was a politician and I do recall him saying that he would not turn his back on Communist Alger Hiss.
