When you eat processed foods which harm your body, do you respect yourself?

When you buy gasoline, aerosol sprays, burn a fire, wear name brand clothing, etc, etc, etc, causing harm to the environment, which kills sickly people with pollutants, and hurting sweatshop workers in China by buying the cheapest shoes and forcing them to make slave wages, do you respect yourself?

I have as much respect for myself smoking one cigar on occasion as you do eating an occasional piece of candy.

An occasional smoke does as much harm to your body as driving in rush hour traffic with the windows down.

Your body is constantly renewing itself. As long as you allow it time to do so by not smoking like a freight train all day long, it will come to no harm.

There is nothing wrong with eating candy, so long as you don't make it the better part of your diet. Same goes for smoking. Same goes for soft drinks. Same goes for Bologna. Same goes for french...err, freedom fries, etc, etc.

I don't know if smoking is a sin or not. I smoked for many years and then quit for a few years and now I am smoking again. I know it only took 1 cigarette to get me back to smoking. I am now trying to quit again, I like to smoke but I hate that my clothes stink and my hair stinks from smoking. Right now I am out of patches and I need to get some more real soon. If you have time say a little prayer for me, if I can quit this time I will sure try to stay away from those nasty things. MK

You were 5 years old when you started smoking a cigarette? I am surprised that there are kids who started that young! LOL

Anyway, I am the opposite, I hate the smell of cigars, and cigarettes. They make me cough...and I stay away from smokers in places where they have a smoking section, or on a smoking break in workplaces.

True...and you can tell they've been smoking when they stand close to you. The smells stays on them (their hair, clothes, etc.)....I even noticed cigarette smoke on important documents that came in the mail at work!

</font>[/QUOTE]Yep, I remember the first clearly. A police officer drove by and I had it in my hand and choked, he slowed down to ask if I was alright and I was holding it behind my back hoping he wouldn't see the smoke!
I knew people who tried pot when they were four, seen parents give their kids beer in bottles.
Depends on the who and the where and the how I guess!
I think that's part of why I don't find smoking as appalling as others do. It's just not a thing to me at all, really. I bite my tongue a lot when people act all shocked, but it's tempting to say "and you know what I USED to do?!!!" just to see their faces.
God knows where people are, where they've been, where they're going, and what their heart is.
I'm more liable to believe the testimony of a pot-smoking Christian who doesn't do crack anymore over the testimony of a police officer who did and still enforces laws in a prejudicial manner.

Because...I see evidence of change in one, even though the other looks better on the outside.

Same with smokers. Gotta go with "God knows" or with what physical evidence ya see otherwise, rather than judging the whole person by that one weakness.

I grew up thinking that smoking was a sin. My mother would not allow an ashtray in her house so I continued the practice in my own home. People who visited my house and wanted to smoke had to smoke outside.

It seems now to be a practice in many homes that smokers smoke outside.

I have never smoked and am glad that I didn't.

So right, Gina ........ as with all sin,
let the one who has no sin cast the first stone.
