So it's in the Bible, because if it isn't it is not sacred. There is nothing sacred about this day or most of our holidays

Doesn't matter. It's still Texas, not Mexico.

Rape is in the Bible. I guess that makes rape sacred.

DUH! Come on down to the Rio Grande Valley of Texas and count the Hispanic surnames. Most of the folks here have family on both sides of the border- legally, I might add. You might also be surprised to find out that folks along the border region in Mexico celebrate the Fourth of July with us. Of course there's always a few "nacos" there who react to that as poorly as some do here to those of Mexican heritage celebrating Cinco de Mayo.

I say- "Vive la diferencia." :1_grouphug:

Some places along the border with Canada do so-

    (From Wiki-)

Detroit, Michigan, and Windsor, Ontario, have, since the 1950s, celebrated Dominion Day or Canada Day and the United States' Independence Day with the International Freedom Festival. A massive fireworks display over the Detroit River, the strait separating the two cities, is held annually with hundreds of thousands of spectators attending. A similar event occurs at the Friendship Festival, a joint celebration between Fort Erie, Ontario, and neighbouring Buffalo, New York, of Canada Day and Independence Day.

You folks who do not live along any of the USA's border with Canada or Mexico just don't appreciate the diversity here.

Spoken like a true ignorante. Mexico's Independence Day has nothing to do with Communism.

BECAUSE IF IT ISN'T (in the Bible) IT IS NOT SACRED.

Following that, if IT IS IN THE BIBLE, IT IS SACRED.

A lot of things are in the Bible, and therefore a lot of things must be sacred.

God ordained the winning of the war..
Or do you not believe in the sovereignty of God... ?

It is the same reason July 4th is a HOLIDAY.

We declared independence with the help of divine providence...

The Mexicans defeated France with the help of God.

Would American overseas be allowed to celebrate July 4th out in the streets? I really doubt it - not in most countries that I know of.

Frist please remember the celabration ot the Cinco de Mayo as we know it was developed as a marketing ploy by the Corona Beer Company back IIRC in the 60's. Corona wantd to penatrate the Texas and Southwest market. So, it took a minor Mexican holiday (Cinco de Mayo=The Battle of Saratoga) and turned it into the the Mexican equivalent of St. Patrick's (if you're Irish) and Colombus (if you're Italian) days.

Second, as an American I am happy to acknowledge the day. If the Imperialistas had won, who knows the fate of the Nationalist cause. If they had crushed Juarez and his followers, they may have moved north of the Rio Grande taking advantage of the Civil War. Since Don Benito Juarez took care of Maximilian, Grant, Lee, et al. didn't.

Third, Mexican-Americans have as much right to celebrate the Cinco de Mayo as the Irish-Americans St. Patrick's Day, and Chinese-Americans the Luanr New Year.

First, they ceded the territory to get rid of the American Army occupying Mexico City. Second the Cinco de Mayo is not Mexican Independence Day thats in September. It celebrates the Nationalist victory at the Battle of Puebla (which was kinda like or victory at Saratoga during the AmRev).
People look the day up on wikipedia.
