Cival rights "reverends"

Discussion in '2003 Archive' started by Christian41974, Feb 25, 2003.

  1. I was just wandering if anyone here ever noticed how many of these cival rights "reverends" use Scripture out of context to prove their point of no war(and many times no war no matter what). Usually, out of context they use Is.2:4 which is talking about one specific time(I believe the millenial kingdom or after it) in the future not today. They use it to mean peace today no matter what. And these cival rights revs never mention anything about Christ or the cross. They associate themselves with heathen. I saw a "reverend" the other day on a popular news show criticizing our President for mentioning God too much in his speeches and the lost host was defending our President.
What are your thoughts on the subject?

The Rev musta hated Lincoln. Just about every speech had a reference to God in it.

BTW - Since when the civil rights reverends think that the anti-war stance was a civil rights issue???

"Ambassadors have no battleships at their disposal, or heavy infantry, or fortresses. Their weapons are words and opportunities." Demosthenes, 343BC.

Communism was not defeated by force or threat of war, but by a better ideology.

War brings death and destruction. Sometimes it becomes reality, but it is never the solution. In the case of Iraq, 0ne million, possibly two million Iraqi men, women and children will die, and possibly as many as 3000 allied troops. At what price peace? Will this victory bring more unrest in the Middle East?

These are the questions I wrestle with. Surely there is another way to bring about resolve. I have no question that Saddam Hussein is a problem, and that something needs to be done. I am also not convinced that war is the solution.

It was no solution in Korea. We ended without resolve, and the same border divisions as when we started, but thousands of lives were changed forever, and renewed issues are rising again.

It reminds me of another thread that speaks of an athlete turning her back on the flag, the symbol of all that country was and is. Nothing is gained by this action. There are other ways to protest the country's failures, but never to turn one's back on all that that country has delivered down through history, including the very freedom to so protest.

Not all the protesters are liberal "reverends" with another agenda; some of us just disagree with the wholesale slaughter of a people on both sides.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    and sometimes ambassadors fail.

communism was defeated? huh, didn't know that. thought china and DPRK and Vietnam were still commies.

it was the solution in the Old Testament.

how many men, women and children are starving to death or dying from disease everyday under hussein's regime right now?

when we sign up for the military we know that our lives may have to be given. it isn't something we look forward to, but that is our job.

nothing but the Antichrist (for about 3 1/2 yrs) and Jesus will bring peace in the middle east so to answer your question, no. but it could save american lives by keeping weapons out of the hands of terrorists. and it could potentially save a lot of Israeli lives too.

OK, what have we not tried yet?

    ok, what is?

this is a totally different subject. the reason we didn't totally win the war on korea was due in part to changing our objectives when we started winning. our leaders screwed up and are paying for it now. war with iraq is a totally different situation.

and that's their right. what would be nice is if the media would stop fanning the flame though.

Korea and Iraq One were unresolved because of United Nation involvement.
What besides war was the solution for Hitler and Tojo? Appeasement failed with Neville Chamberlain and the Nazi's and we were bombed while in diplomatic discussions with Japan.

Those who think war is never the solution might brush up on the Old Testament a bit. God commanded it at times.

I see nothing but folly in this continuing tap dance with Saddam. If liberals have their way, this will go on until he has the weapons he truly wants. Nukes.
One of the arguments against war is that he doesn't have them yet. YET!!!?????
So we wait until he does? THEN send in our troops?

Very few Iraqis and allies will die in the war.
The greatest danger to our troops, apart from the biological and chemical weapons Saddam claims he doesn't have, will be getting run over in the stampede of Iraqi "soldiers" rushing to surrender.

I would venture to say that one Marine Armored division could clear out every Arab nation in the Mideast as fast as it takes to drive a tank through them.

I haven't really heard and other solutions offered anyway, except to continue the inspections charade.

I heard on the news today that Saddam has just "found" a banned bomb he forgot he had.
Containing chemicals he said he didn't have.
    More stalling.

Oh, I guess I'd better made some attempt to address the topic of this thread.
The "reverends." Most of them don't actually even have a church. Some, like brother Jesse, are just scam artists and extortionists.
Most are just trying to advance their liberal left wing ideology, which has not helped their "flocks" at all.
Where were they when Clinton bombed anybody unfortunate enough to be the bad guy of the day whenever Monica Lewinski's name came up?
    Busy defending Clinton.

yep. just like when he decided to allow the U-2 flights. he's pretending to cooperate to 1. allow himself more time 2. cause dissension in the UN 3. raise support from other arab nations because he has "done everything he could to cooperate"

  9. Mountainrun, I agree, most anti-war people I have seen have no solution but waiting till we get bombed by Iraq. Some make the foolish argument that America's only reason for war is oil ,but the truth is the reason France, Russia, and China don't support us is they buy oil from Iraq.

It is never hard to tell when God's W-O-R-D-S are not a man's authority.

Exodus 15:2 The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name

  12. Pure words, thanks for posting. I like your name, probably one of the best on the board.
Bro. Jim, I wasn't including you in cival rights reverends(though you could be one??? just kidding!!!! just a joke). I was talking about many of those so-called revs who get on tv and got to these protests and they NEVER talk about Christ they speak only of political or social problems which we sometimes need to address but they make it their life and miss ever speaking of Christ. They never preach or witnss it they just have an agenda or something. They use that title to give them respect when they deserve none. Sharpton is now runing for President He cares nothing about the lost just about his carear. I saw one "rev" get up at a protest after a sodomite and heathen just got up and raged about the war and this "rev" got up (seemingly as mad as he could be) and instead of preaching Christ to this bunch of heathen he was right there with them against our President and tried to use Scripture out of context to prove his point for no war. He acted like the heathen and problably is a heathen. Again I am not calling you one of these "revs" if you disagree with war I am just wandering if anybody ever noticed these fakes on tv and everywhere else trying to get a vote or support not for Christ but for their liberal views. I dont agree with everything Franklin Graham does or believes but I saw him the other night on tv on Fox on Hannity and Colmes talking with Hannity and Colmes and they asked him about his dad Billy Graham and he went into it with them and gave them the gospel right there. I saw Jerry Fallwell who I again do not always agree with but He was on Donohue and they asked him why Christians were so single-minded and he told the girl if your trying to go to heaven without Christ you'll miss it. He said you'll go through Christ or you won't go. These men though I often disagree with them but they when given the chance on tv at least give the gospel instead of just their political views.
