Coast Guard to Congress: Don't Move Us to Pentagon

    I consider the Coast Guard more for law enforcement (guarding borders against evil) and the Navy itself for defense. When did that change?

    It hasn't. Thought, there maybe Navy types who want to fold the CG into the DoN. I think it's kinda like those who want to fold the USMC into the Army.
    Mind you, the Coast Guard has always been a military force. Alexander Hamilton explicitly organized the Revenue Marine Service (the Coast Guard's mother service) under naval discipline. After being under the Treasury and Transportation Departments, the service is in a department which fits its basic role.
