6Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,7having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.

8See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ. 9For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, 10and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority; 11and in Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ; 12having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. 13When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, 14having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

15When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.
    1. What rulers and authorities were disarmed?

    2. What rulers and authority were put on public display?

    3. What does “having triumphed over them through Him” mean?

    But more,
    4. How is all that applicable to the assembly at Colossae?

Satan , other fallen angels and his seed and His seed:
7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,

8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.

9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

13 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.

14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.

15 And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.

16 And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.

17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

The Lord Jesus defeats satan at the cross. We have victory in union with him as believers.
We are to walk as children of light eph5:1-17

I agree that this Scripture gives the highlights; however, where is the public display that validates His authority over rulers (not ruler).

Could it be (because the accuser of believers still has access to heaven) that the public display has yet to happen?

I think the focus in Col2:14-15 is the cross.
He made a show of them openly

    Typically, I would agree.

However, the verse doesn't quite fit. They were not publicly displayed as disarmed. Rather, continue to this day refuting that which God established.

Ill take a stab at this passage

Paul wrote Col in order to show that Christ is the preeminent one in all things. Gnosticism had begun to invade the Church (christianity and gnosticism are not compatible. There is no such thing as Gnostic Christianity).

Gnosticism was the first major heresy threatening the Church. It basically taught that
    1. The God of the Bible is so holy that He is almost unknowable so there must be “intermediaries” or degrees of separation between God and man. Read here “angelic beings” working in a priestly role reconcile God and man.

    2. There is no way that God would ever “humble” Himself to become man

Hence Paul is writing to show that God did become man in the person of Christ and that He has the preeminence in all things including over these angelic beings since He and He alone has redeemed man from sin and He alone is the Lord
Who has overcome sin, death, hell and satan

The public display is that He did this openly (teachings, ministry, cross resurrection etc) in order to show that He is God, He is real, He is worthy, He is preeminent one in human history.

Paul wrote this in order to show that noone or nothing can compare to what Jesus has done in redemption. Jesus did what no other could do

    Just my stab

    Grace and peace

Just to be clear principalities powers etc are the titles used of the gnostics for these false angelic beings believed to act as “co-redeemers”. Paul is showing it is a false teaching
