Cooking for the 5th Texas in a big reenactment, we did an entire Virginia Ham on a spit, cooked for 24 hrs. We were the envy of those Yankeescum who were eating hardtack and parched corn.

There is no flavor like a whole ham. Those puny boneless hams are mostly injected flavor, salt and water. Thin sliced and fried and they shrivel up into onion skin style!

I agree on those boneless things, that isn't ham.

p.s. - I have gotten away (to my shame) from giving my wife flowers.

She was declared terminal, with three months to live. She was healed through some Chinese herbs (hence her return to China for study and becoming a doctor and her clinic for the past 10 years helping others).

As she began to recover, I went to the neighborhood florist or to Safeway and got a single, unique flower and some greens. Had a lot of bud vases at home. So for $2 a week, we had flowers. (And that was a whole lot less $$ than flowers for a funeral . . and she can enjoy them!)

Did that for 9 months of the year (we grow our own during the summer, of course) for 5 years. Then left to teach at Pillsbury and we were doing good just to travel back and forth and keep everything together.

Think it's time to get back into the habit. You know, for about $3.99 you can get a small bouquet at the market, and they last a week or so.

Stop and smell the flowers is not just a saying. It is medicinal, too!

Dr. Bob, we shop at one store in particular mostly. This store always has tons of flowers blooming out front or in pots. No matter how much of a hurry we're in I always used to tell the girls "don't forget to stop and smell the flowers!" Now that they're old enough they all say it with me when we go. :D About two weeks ago they were kinda far away from the door so I tried to sneak them in without saying it, they thought the world was coming to an end! "MOMMY! You FORGOT! What's wrong!!??" ROFL
Today they had brightly colored flowers to purchase and I *almost* got them, but passed on because out here a little bouquet is about $7. I usually like white or all one color, but these were bright and all different colors and I LOVED them! Absolutely beautiful. [IMG]
Keep giving them to your wife. That's a wonderful way to show how much you care and how thankful you are she's still with you! I'm impressed with ya. I figured you for more of a get her a new power drill kinda guy! [IMG]

No ham for dinner today. My in-laws, knowing I'm hobbled, asked if they could bring supper. Baked potato, Greek feta salad and 16 ounce porterhouse, medium rare, hot from the grill. Just finished it before I started posting.

And a loave of homebaked banana bread. [IMG]

Don't tell the wife, but WHO NEEDS HER! I have her family!

I am going to unplug my computer, go to bed, turn my 'sleep machine' and the TV on and HOPE I can get some sleep despite the rolling thunder and bright lightning.

Good night, lady! (Isn't that a line from Andre the Giant in the Princess Bride?)

Sleep machine as in "NOISE" machine or a CPAP?

Good Morning Dr. Bob, Sheila, and Blackbird!

We are still having storms. It rained all night.

Dr. Bob: That would be a "NOISE" sleep machine. I am a very light sleeper.

Sheila: Are you having another hot and muggy day? We are!

Blackbird: I listened to your preaching tape last night. It was GOOD! You preach pretty much like you post...you're a straight shooter...from the Spirit and straight from the hip, errr, I meant heart. :D I enjoyed it VERY much, as well as the music tape and booklet you sent. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

I think I will have some...

    [IMG] [IMG]

I will be around for awhile, then I have some work to do...

There used to be a radio program here which came on with the song:
    Good morning! Good Morning!
It's nice to say Good Morning!.......to you.

Nice to see all the activities everyone is into.

    Cheers, and God bless,

    Jim

    Good Morning Jim!

Is it hot and muggy in Canada? It seems to be everywhere this Spring! Will you be drawing again today?

Hello Sue, No, it is quite nice in my little corner..cooool in the morning, nice during the day, not humid at all. We get humid weather for about two weeks of the summer when one would like an air conditioner, but the rest of the summer is bearable.

Yes, loads of work to do. I just finished one set of drawings when the owner changed mind and want a smaller house,,,,,back to square one and start over......I have 4 different buildings on the drawing board just now, thank you.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Good morning folks! This will be another morning when I have to drag along my umbrella. Rain is in the forecast. Hope you all have a sunny day... for where Jesus is, there is sunshine (like in Son-shine)! [IMG]

Good Morning Barnabas! I am never without my umbrella anymore! This Spring has been WET and still is! :(

EVERYONE: There is a birthday card started in this forum...please take a minute to sign it.

I have been posting birthday and anniversary cards (from the list in the "Women's Private Forum") and I usually pm the receiver on 'their' day to let them know they have a card if I haven't see them in awhile.

It is [IMG] to do that when the card only has 2-3 signatures. We post with these people in this forum and many others, so please just stop by and wish them the best. Whether we agree or disagree with people's opinions, I think this is a nice way to say, "Hey, we're still Christians and on common ground, and we have love one for another".

Everyone enjoys having their 'special' days recognized. Please help me out on this. Thanks!
