The rest of my Saturday is easy - a rugby match on the telly at 500, then easy evening. Just finished tomorrow's message on Galatians 4v8-20. Poor Paul, he taught and preached and his hearers were drawn away by false teachers.

    Roger,

I will read that passage in a minute. Are you a big admirer of Paul and his writings ?

Hey C.J., you could pretend to be SDA for JUST today and then go back to Baptist tomorrow... but then you'd have to be a nudist the rest of the week! LOL You could overnight your ironing to Sheila and she could send you her paper to type up.

Ah... Roger... Itching Ears! They hear what they want to hear to make their lives all 'fine and dandy'. Glad the rest of your day is peaceful tho!

My S/S lesson is more on David. We've done him for a few weeks now. Little Nick B. is raring at the bit for me to tell them about 'chop, chop, chopping off his head!' Hey.. come to think of it, he almost never stutters anymore. He's a cutie pie. Did I tell y'all that my class membership has grown from 13 in Sept. to 22 last Sunday? I met several ladies who brought the visitor kids on Wednesday night and told them I'd be the S/S teacher.... so I might have MORE tomorrow. Plus, I met and witnessed to a bi-racial couple yesterday, with a little one. They had just moved here from Mass. and said they know they need to get the child in church so promised they'd TRY to come tomorrow.

    Hi Sheila,

A worthy book to read about Paul is : Paul, Apostle of the Heart Set Free by F.F. Bruce, Paternoster Press, Exeter (1977).

Anyone would be an admirer of the apostle.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    LOL, Sheila!! [IMG]

I enjoy watching football on TV; however, since the season is almost over, there are no Saturday games, so I can catch up on all kinds of other stuff!! [IMG]

"Laundry for one" is not really a big deal; however, ironing IS because I don't like to iron, so it stacks up till I have a lot of it to do!! Actually, the only things I need to iron are some blouses/shirts. They just look better when they're ironed!! (Got that from my mom!) But I let them accumulate for several weeks before I get the inclination to iron them and by then, it's a chore!! :D

Best idea I've heard in YEARS!!! [IMG] Love to type; hate to iron!!

Ah, yes...I had forgotten about Little Nick and his fascination with Jesus chopping everybody's heads off!!!

Diane...I could NEVER pretend to be SDA, and then go back to being Baptist!!! Good grief...I would have to go to church TWO DAYS in a row???? [IMG] [IMG]

So, Roger, are you going to share your sermon notes with us?

Jim, I have F.F. Bruce's book, "The Letters of Paul", and it's very good. I have had it since I was in college and needed for a N.T. survey class I was taking.

    Jim,

I will have to try and get that book. It is one I don't have.

    Thanks for the recommendation.

I sometimes wish we had a sort of book club here, where some of us read a particular book and then discuss it. I wonder if anyone would be interested ?

    Blessings

    Sheila

    CJ,

Rob suggests you watch the football while you iron. I listen to praise cd's and tapes while I am ironing.
    Be Back Later,

    Blessings

I love preaching through Paul's epistles. Tomorrow's message is a lot for me. About 1 1/2 years ago we lost our entire little church that we were planting due to a false teacher coming in a dragging them away with teachings they wanted to hear. I have really felt like I possibly was not doing my job right till I found out yesterday that Paul went through the same thing.

My notes are a bit disjointed for tomorrow - going to be one of those days of special reliance on the Holy Spirit for what He wants put across. Before I start a "discussion", of course I ALWAYS must depend on His help, but feel a special need tomorrow. The Lord has started to put another small group of believers here so I want to perceptive to what we all need to hear.

Didn't think about that, C.J., just thinking of the day of rest.

Sheila, someone mentioned ChristianBooks.com and said they have new and used. I've not ever used it. You might see if they have the book and see if they'll ship it to you!

Bruce is a prolific writer, and anything by F.F. Bruce is worth reading.

    Ironing break!!! :D

I buy a lot of books from ChristianBook.com. Their pricing is usually pretty good, although I think their shipping charges are a little high.

Diane, I hope you realize I was kidding about going to church 2 days in a row!! After all, I am at church on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and sometimes Friday!!! [IMG]

I DO watch football while ironing...only problem is, today there are no football games! So, I am watching a movie while I iron...and checking in with BB!!

Roger, I do PowerPoint for my pastor's sermons. I use his notes which he usually has ready on Wednesday's. But between Wednesday and Sunday, the Holy Spirit sometimes changes some of the things he is to say and lots of PPT slides get bypassed! But that's OK...his reliance on the Holy Spirit is the important thing, as you well know.

I think a "book club" would be neat! There is a "what are you reading" thread, but it's really not a discussion thread, although people do make comments there. It seems there is a lot of variety in our reading preferences, so it would be great to hear discussions of books we all are reading. I might read some things I never thought about reading! [IMG]

CJ - break over...back to the ironing board!

    Diane,

Thank you, I will check the site out.

Roger, I will pray that the Holy Spirit will lead you and guide you in your teaching tomorrow.

Jim, what are you currently reading ? ( I always like to know what Jim is reading )

CJ, goodness...are you usually so single minded? ha ha, what determination.

Oh well, I will do a quick whiz round and then back to the books myself.

    Later you guys,

    Sheila

    Hi Sheila,
I am currently reading a book by Charles Malik, who was Professor of Philosophy at American University of Beirut, Lebanon. The Wonder of Being. It is actually a copy of three lectures he gave at Trinity College (Anglican), University of Toronto in 1969. Good reading.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Under the Cosmological Argument he says, "I do not deduce my faith; I presuppose it. I do not construct my belief: I receive it....it is from the standpoint of the Christian faith, then, that I see and understand man and the world."

    Jim,

I am getting near to the end of Andrew T. Lincoln's book: Truth On Trial, it is to do with the lawsuit motif in the Fourth Gospel. I have found it a very good read, so informative and I like his writing style to.

    Blessings

He has written quite a few books, particularly commentaries on the New Testament. Did you know he once taught at the University of Toronto?..New Testament studies.

    Jim,

Yes, I did. He has written a comentary on Ephesians which is very highly regarded, so I understand.

Did you ever get to meet him ?

    Hi Sheila,
No I never met him. Just heard about him from when I was teaching at Queen's. When one is in the field, one gets to hear about most of the professors in the same field.

I have three of his books.

He is also a graduate of Westminister and I have a few close friends who are also graduates from there. An excellent school.

Is he teaching at your university now? I know he returned to England a few years back, but I wasn't sure where he went.

    Cheers,

    Jim
