I can see getting into a heated discussion over some things of principle, and even some personal issues, but it should never continue on end. It is better to just avoid the other party and get on with it.

I just can't see some of the endless battles,,veiling, modesty, versions...they just accomplish little or nothing and are really not of key importance. Get a person right with Jesus and let the Holy Spirit do His job. We all say we believe in the Holy Spirit, but so few of us are willing to let Him work...as if we could really stop Him (theologically).

    Cheers,

    Jim

    Good evening all.

Maybe if Dr. Bob has to keep spending all his time putting out fires - I'll have a chance to catch up with him in my post count!

    hey Dan,
I forgot to write the devotional to-day at the Carpenter's Chapel, but I managed to copy a small story I read to-day. A very good story for use in a sermon.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Hello all! Your right, the fighting fundamentalist is one mean site. If you want to find out who is really saved, they will let you know. [IMG]

I've looked in on FF a couple of times - I don't think that any unsaved person would ever be led to Christ by visiting that site!

    Dan - just an observation!

I keep a lower profile on the FFF. Even though its two main sections - Fighting Fundamentalist and Fundamentalist Fellowship - carry most of the conversations, there is no moderating.

If folks like some of the looney-tunes here come, they get nailed to the wall by the posters and out-shouted rather than banned.

I like the genteel civility (sometimes) of the Baptist Board, thank you very much.

Pardon me, do you have any Grey Poupon? [IMG]

A very quick good morning to all. It looks like all of last nights excitement was about the lack of excitement.

Seriously, I have visited a couple of the other ones including FF and found VERY little to interest me there. One big fight was all.

    Appreciate the balance here!

See you all later in the day.

C U, C4K. I'm off to bed early, too. Have huge days upcoming - preaching and preparing.

Saturday - Speak at Liberty Baptist
Sunday 9 am - Speak at Evangelical Free
Sunday 11 am - Speak at Christian Missionary Alliance

Son and family are coming Sunday afternoon. He is MOVING BACK as his job begins Monday. Wife and kids will go back home preparing to sell the house. He will stay with us during the week. Oh boy.

And Tuesday begins the Spring Modules in our Bible Institute/Seminary classes. I'm teaching two units on "Chronology of the Bible".

Not TOO busy! Will not have much time for the 'net, I'm afraid.

Busy days, Dr B. Who is going to keep these guys in line?

Just ate a huge breakfast sandwich with Irish sausage, black and white pudding, eggs, and potato rosties. On my third cup of tea - stuffed.

My adult reading student will be here soon, then Six Nations Rugby starts!!!!

My pop in at half-time or between games.

This is my favourite sporting time of year! Half of the next ten Saturdays will be wasted though as I will be glued to the telly. [IMG]

Good morning, Blackbird and Roger, tops to you, mate. Rugby is always a good go, but not sure I could put in a half day at it. Half hour in front of telly and I am going bonkers...anything.

Blackbird,,a dusting of snow..well..that is like leaving your window ajar in a sand storm. The dust comes under window and spreads thinly over everything. We rarely get a "dusting". We get snow!

    Cheers,

    Jim

Should have been clearer - rugby is on 1/2 of the next ten Saturdays (matches are fortnightly) and the afternoons of those Saturdays will be wasted in front of the telly, trying to get some work done this morning so I can enjoy it without feeling guilty.

Mild and sunny in Ireland this morning! [IMG]

I never have understood Rugby---I've watched it played from a distance----appears to be some form of "All Against All" backyard tackle football we use to play in the neighboorhood growing up!!

Roger---In ten posts or less--explain to your Cajun buddy from Louisiana---how the game of Rugby is played!!

    Your buddy,
    Blackbird

Actually it is only on for the next 6 weeks.

BB, rugby is actually a lot like American football was originally. It more a game of field position than ball possession. You advance the ball by running, passing (laterals in American football), and kicking. There is no forward pass. When play does stop it is re-started in a scrum (similar to a line of scrimmage) or a line out where the ball is thrown from the sideline between each team lined up. The American line of scrimmage combined the scrum and the line out. You score 5 points for crossing the "goal line" and actually touching the ball down. (Why don't you have to touch the ball down for an American "touchdown"?). You get 2 points for a conversion, kicked from 20 metres out from wherever the ball was touched down so some kicks are from the sideline (using some US terms here in case any rugby fans are reading). You get three points for a penalty kick (similar to a field goal, but kicked after a penalty) or for a drop goal, where in the midst of play the ball is dropped, bounced off the ground, and kicked between the uprights.

There, how was that for the basics?

One good feature of rugby is that the final two minutes does not go on for an hour. They play the actual 90 minutes with the referee adjusting the time for stoppages at the end of game. Usually when a player is injured, he crawls, creeps or otherwise makes his own way to the bench and the team plays short that man...No sissy stuff there! Only lateral passes...none of this throwing the ball as far s one can down field. Scrums, teams facing each other and huddled together until the ball is kicked free to a player.that determines possession...and then the run begins.

    Cheers,

    Jim

It's great fun, and as Jim said you can plan around it - you know two hours is more than enough time to watch a match.

    Blackbird wanted to know:
Three snow flakes would make a light dusting!

Five would make a blizzard - in Mississippi!

Dan - I'm north of the Mason/Dixon line! [IMG]
