Well, Brent and I made it back. We took the back roads and cut off about 80 miles round trip and I didn't get lost once!

We had a great time. I have been visiting there since I was about 5 years old, but Brent had never seen anything like it and he was SO excited! I usually took my kids every couple of years, but this was my first trip back in about 20 years.

I took plenty of pictures and will post some when I get them developed. I have been introducing him to the "Little House on the Prairie" series and he actually got to see the authenic tools at New Salem like they used on the TV series.

At the Rutledge Inn, a woman in period clothes was baking an apple pie. She let Brent stir the flour and I got a picture of them both together. She was getting ready to bake it in a dutch oven over an open fire.

Brent insisted on taking a picture of me since I had taken all the others with him in them. So he took one in the one-room school house that doubled as a "Hard Shell" Baptist church on Sundays.

We ate at the restaurant there and Brent had an "Uncle Sam's" Steam burger. I had a "Sam Hill's" Hot Beef with Provolone.

We both had a really fun time. A first adventure for Brent and a nostalgic adventure for me.

It was hotter there than in Lincoln and my hair was soaked by the time we got back to the car. It's about a four-hour walk if you do it right.

When we got back to Lincoln and I saw that gas had shot up to $3.09 (was $2.56 early this morning) I REALLY got 'steamed'!

    §ue (the adventurer)

Well Folks, we did not get good news from the MRI. :(

it appears there is a recurrence at L-4, (That's in the lower back, for those of us [like me] who aren't up on our medical terms.) It is actually in the bone. Have an appointment with the Dr in charge of radiation tomorrow morning. :( [IMG]

Oh, Gayla! I'm so sorry to hear this. I will be praying for God to give the doctors wisdom.

    We have that Blessed Hope.

Please post as soon as you find out anything!

These things are sent to try us................and try us they do. All the very best to you, and keep in mind that we so often fret over the things that never happen. If they do happen, the Lord is exceedingly able to help us in time of trouble. God bless, Gayla.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    Hey folks.

Oh Gayla, I'm so sorry. I also will pray.

Sorry it took so long for me to get back. Didn't have anything to do with Katrina. As I was posting the first time, I glanced at the clock and realized I had to leave right then to pick up the girls from school. I thought I'd get to post again when I got back. No such luck, it took soooo long to pick up at school that by the time I got back I had a customer waiting on me. By the time I was done with her, it was time for sick Son to go to the doctor. We've just walked in the door a few minutes ago. He has a sinus infection, took 3 hours in a freezing office to find that out.

Katrina so far is a non event for us despite the fact that schools got out early today and are closed tomorrow. It has rained a bit and the radar shows it all around the south and west of us, but that's it! I'm keeping an eye on it though.

Sue, your trip sounds like fun! When I was a kid in Michigan we used to go to Greenfield Village on field trips. Yours sounds very similar.

Tomorrow is my first day back at 'the corner' so I am going to bed.

School starts at 8:30 and ends at 10:30. I don't know why they even bother to go! School gets out early every day this week and then we're off for Labor Day.

I also have a doctor's appointment and lab work tomorrow afternoon, but it's routine, nothing to worry about.

Then I will pick up Brent's Paces, for home schooling, at the church. I may not start him until after Labor Day with all the different hours I'm working this week.

    Pleasant dreams all!

Only two hours? I agree, why do they bother?

    Morning all:

Wow! What a morning. The wind is howling, and it sounds like the house is being torn apart. Tropical Storm Katrina is here in full force! Vivian left for work, but didn't even make it to the highway because of the debris that was all around the roadways. Flooding is becoming a problem, also. The winds are between 40-50 mph with gusts up to 75-80 mph. So, she turned around and came home. Several areas are without power right now, and most of the state is "closed".

I think I might try to "hit the hay" again. Didn't sleep too well last night with the wind blowing so hard and shaking the house!

Will try to keep ya'll posted throughout the day if we continue to have power.

Be good, be kind, be careful! [IMG]

    Keep safe, Tony.

    Good morning all:

It is a cool morning ~ 63º. Only supposed to be in the mid 80s all week.

Brent and I are riding our bicycles to the corner twice a day, as long as the weather is nice, so save on gas. $3.11 a gallon last night.

    Morning everyone!

Our non event hurricane stayed that way until about midnight. Then things really kicked up. The power went on and off a least a dozen times and we could see the flashes in the sky from transformers blowing, just at the same time the power would blink. Finally it stayed off for a while and then came back on and stayed on. Outages aren't to bad here in the city but the county wasn't so lucky. MIL has power lines down in her yard where a tree across the road fell and took the lines with it.

We have lots of limbs and branches down and the pool is knee deep in leaves. One limb fell on a fence section and bent the top rail a bit and pushed down the chain link. I don't think it did any real damage to the fence and hope the dogs don't discover they can get out before I get it fixed.

One of my neighbors lost a big Bradford pear. The winds twisted it just so that one half the tree landed in one direction and one in the other, but it didn't damage either house that it was between. The kids and I spent some time dragging it out of the way while another neighbor cut it the rest of the way down. The lady who lives in the house has and even worse back than mine and felt so bad that she couldn't clean up her own yard.

I have to drive across town to deliver some sewing, so I guess I'll find out how everyone else fared then.

Tony, hope it doesn't last long for you.

Sue, I'm not sure I remember what 63 feels like, it's been so hot this summer.

I haven't, but I don't think she has posted since BEFORE Katrina...

Brent and I rode our bicycles six miles today and I am sore. We rode to the 'corner' and back twice and then clear out to the church to pick up his home schooling material for this year.

I am going to the doctors now, but I AM taking the car..........

    §ue (gonna be sore tomorrow!)

Sue, back a few posts you mentioned reading the Little House on the Prairies book. You might be interested in reading Words From A Fearless Heart, written by Laura Ingalls Wilder and Stephen Hines. Wilder was a Congrgationalist all her life, and has some wonderful writings.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    Hello Folks,
Went to see the Radiation Oncologist this morning. Will start a series of ten radiation treatments next Wednesday.
Lord willing, that'll take care of it.

TaterTot posted on a thread about BB members in the path of the storm either Sat or Sunday. (Don't remember which, but it was before the storm.)

    Gayla, will be praying.

We are stil receiving rain off and on, and we are also having some pretty heavy wind gusts still, though now from a different direction, praise the Lord! It's supposed to clear up tonight. I hope it does.

I'm still working on the new church's website, and hope to have it up by the week-end. But, I don't know that it will be possible, yet. There's a lot more to put on this site than the one for the last church.

I'm really looking forward to tomorrow nights lesson at Prayer Meeting. We are studying the Bible, Baptist beliefs, etc., through Foundations of the Faith available at Lifeway! Great study! [IMG]

Jim: Thanks! I just ordered a used copy from Amazon!

    Gayla: What good news!

Tony: Glad everything is going so well.

I think TaterTot and Blackbird may both be out of power. The pictures on the weather channel are devastating!
