That's what this laptop is. It's a strange little thing.
What in the world is with the battery in it??? It went all the way down to 1%. Nothing helped. I wasn't even USING the battery. I left it alone but plugged in for 24 hours. It still didn't recharge. I left it UNplugged for hours, then plugged it in and didn't turn it on. It stayed at 1%. I left it plugged in and on. Nothing.
Now for no apparent reason it suddenly went back up to 100%.
Also, how much can this thing take? [IMG] There's stuff I want to download, but I'm afraid it would be too much for it.
I never turned my old computer off, and it ran for about 3 years with absolutely no problems until it got hit by lightening. I take it a laptop is different! Should you only leave it on for x amount of time?
While I'm asking all this, one time it wouldn't turn off. At all. I tried to turn it off normal, nothing. I unplugged it. Nothing. I removed the battery. Nothing. It was like it was possessed! LOL What was that all about?

I don't know about laptops, but we have three Compaq Preserios in our home, and we stand by them. We did have a battery go in one straight off, but Compaq sent a technician out to the house and replaced it and checked the computer out whilst at it..Five years ago and no problems since.

I was told that Compaq service was better in Canada than in the USA, but I can't confirm that.

    Cheers,

    Jim

IT sounds like your battery is bad. I have a Dell and when the battery goes bad it quits charging. Usually there are lights on it that when you push a button a certain number of them will light up and tell you if it is good or bad.

As for how much it will take, it all depends on what model it is. The new presario go up to 2+ ghz processors with up to 60 gig hard drives. They will pretty much take whatever you want. But you have to know what you have first.

Yup, Gina. You need a new battery. I haven't had a laptop for several years, but that's how my battery acted when it needed replaced.

I just put a Compaq Presario on lay-away last week (not a laptop). I am hoping to have as good a performance record with mine as Jim has with his!

Sue, Do you know which model Presario you are getting? Our latest is an S3200NX. Our other models are 2200 (oldest) and 2264.

    Wish you well with yours.

    Cheers,

    Jim
