Don't worry, Ransom. Your point is well taken.

And this thread needs to be continually updated because it hasn't been hijacked yet. It still can help people see the salient points of the Geneva v AV issues.

Sorry...it was still in my yahoo email account to be answered. Don't know why it sat for so long, but thought it still needed to be addressed for the fact that it is a good thread to show the differences ignored by most. [IMG]

Unless in their preception it promotes a side-issue they are trying to unload.

Correct, Hank. And this has been evident in other threads.

Michelle:They obviously did not yet have the perfect word of God yet. God eventually provided it for them and us.

So God goofed & had to correct Himself? That's what you're saying in so many words.

Geneva translated that word wrong. It is correctly rendered Easter.

No, it's not. You simply refuse to accept the UNDENIABLE PROOF that's been posted ad nauseum. All you're doing is making yourself into more of a laughing stock.

Otherwise, God would have seen to correct it alot sooner than 400 years later.

    Proof, please?

Think Natters. With the mind of Christ, and not the wisdom of the world.

It appears He's been doing so, knowing CHRIST isn't limited to your criteria.

You said you're not KJVO. If that's true, you must have some other specific version(s) you'd recommend. Name(s), please?

You said I was a versionolator. Where's the post(s) I asked you to cut-n-paste where I said such?

Your veracity is at stake here...better answer one way or the other. THIS AINT GONNA GO AWAY, MICHELLE! !

    Michelle;

I didn't know God's word could ever be improved upon. Seems to me like 2 Tim. 3:16 is still in full effect. Also 2 Peter 1:20,21.

Your theology is much like a never ending helix.

    My 2 cents worth.....

If I walk into a church on Sunday, and the people are dressed the same as those that I saw at the mall the day before, then I know they do not have my 'Word of God'.

If I walk into a church on Sunday, and the music sounds the same as the rock concerts that I use to attend (granted the "pot" smell isn't there), then I know that they do not have my 'Word of God'.

If I walk into a church on Sunday, and they are lifting their hands to the Lord in praise, but when I visited them on Friday night the HBO movie coming out of their TV wasn't fit for Christian consumption, then I know that they do not have my 'Word of God'.

As a child, I recall the visits to my Granddad and Granny. At night, they would read their bible, and afterwards, both would get down on their knees and start to pray. When I look back on it now, I would love to be able to pray like my Granddad. I remember my Dad reading his Bible everyday, and seeing him on his knees praying. Unfortunately, this generation of the family almost messed it up. Thankfully, I went back to the way that I know worked, and others in the family are slowly getting back there. My grandparents, and both my Mom and Dad are now in heaven. My father-in-law (a SBC pastor) passed away in 1991. I would like to tell them that it worked. I would like to thank them for not comprising, and for staying true to my 'Word of God'. Somehow, I believe that they already know it.

    God bless....

Betty Don't - I am not sure how your evaluation fits with "they don't have my Word of God"??

You mean they don't have your salvation?

I know many Christians who use the KJV who attend churches with casual dress and CCM. How do they "not" have your Word of God??

    I am confused here.

I believe the fact that God didn't allow the Autographs to remain extant, but that He's allowed
many translations of His word to be made speaks volumes about His will as far as the preservation and presentation of His word goes. I believe these facts remove much of the guesswork about God's intent.

Clearly, God is showing us He's providing His word in the languages He's provided for us. The Geneva Bible served His purposes, but He's allowed it to continue to exist because it's a valid translation of His word. Same with the earliest English versions, the AV 1611 & all its revisions, and the more modern versions.

I don't think anyone except those with some kind of agenda thought, or now think that the GB was anything but an excellent translation. The KJV didn't CORRECT the GB; it's simply another translation made by different men than those who made the GB.

I think we should stop holding Michelles feet to the fire here. I've read her on many threads.I did'nt know the apostles spoke the kings english and I did'nt know they spoke the kings english in the O.T. either.
I think Michelle has been to one of those prison camps the north koreans were famous for and become so brainwashed there is no help for her.

    Dr. Bob,

Were you were responding to my post? If not, I apologize.

If you are asking for clarification of my post, then I will try to answer.

I believe that there is only one salvation, so anyone that has mine is on their way to heaven.

Casual Dress is OK with me. I have no qualms with my wife wearing slacks, or conversative shorts, although my Pastor highly objects. It just seems from personal experience that those churches have become more like the world instead of the people coming in and becoming more like Christ. I go into a church where I use to be a member, and the shorts are up to their bums, more piercings than I care to look at, breasts hanging out of blouses, etc. I'm sorry, but I lived that life, and when I changed, I changed. The 'modern way' almost destroyed my family. I have to go for now, but I can post more later. Thanks

    God bless...

And your point is????
What is the 'Word of God' you are referring to?

And please, pray tell, what would you consider "compromise". Many people can look the part of the Christian (remember the Pharisees being beautiful on the outward appearance? Didn't Jesus say they were nothing more than whited sepulchres???) and be something totally different in fact. As far as other personal standards, God has to do the convicting, not other Christians, and not all Christians are convicted on the same level or to the same degree. Otherwise we'd all just be clones.

With a handle like Willie Make it, it seemed like Bettie Don't was about as sane a reply . . Forgive my odd attempt at humor.

Just trying to see why you made such outrageous statements, like people who DO what you described DO NOT have your Bible. Very odd.

Appreciate your answer. Not fussin' at you! [IMG]

    AV1611,

'My Word of God' is the Bible that I read, and the understanding that the Holy Spirit gives to me. My point was mainly that regardless of the version someone is reading, is the Holy Spirit able to lead all to the same prescribed truths of the Gospel. I do use the KJV exclusively--not because I worship the KJV, but because it is where my personal journey has led me. I will not judge a church, or anyone for that matter, based upon the version they use, or the music they choose to listen to. However, I, as should every other Christian, will know them by their fruits, and I could share with you what I have personally observed coming out of the 'modern church culture'. I have two teenaged daughters. I have encouraged my eldest to write her testimony and share with others. She was involved in church all of her life, was very active in the youth group, and is a Christian. I almost lost her to the world (she wasn't in danger of ever losing her salvation, of course); however, I (the onus was on me) returned to my roots. God blessed this decision, and I consider it a miracle what has happened, and still is happening, in the lives of my family. Some of the greatest news that I have ever received is when my daughter told me that her best friends (yes, Christian friends) didn't think she was fun anymore. I had to refrain from shouting when she told me this.

In a nutshell, before we hammer on someone regarding what version they are using, or what music they are listening to, let us first inspect the fruits. If there is a lacking, then let us dig deeper and see if we can help the person overcome. This would be especially beneficial in families that are losing their kids to a subversive and anti-Christ culture.

And your point is????

    Dr. Bob,

Maybe you can get more of where I am coming from in my replay to AV1611. CCM is not a problem, considering I have enjoyed various artists (i.e, Ray Boltz) in the past, and have felt the Spirit in some of their singing.

Both of my daughters attended a SBC youth event (Centrifuge) at Carson-Newman College this past summer. They had a blast, and my eldest daughter made significant impacts on the lives of some that were attending. Of course, they had nightly services, with skits, music, etc. A 12-year-old girl sang one night. She performed 5 hymns (the old-fashion kind), and everyone (even the guest youth pastor) were brought to tears. A revival almost broke out, unfortunately, I am not really sure if anyone was equipped to handle the moving of the Holy Spirit in such a way. I am not being judgemental by any means; however, I do know a lot of those that went down. I really believe that God wants to really work in the lives of our youth, and their leaders; however, sadly as it may sound, they have not been equipped to handle a start of another spiritual awakening in this country. Of course, this statement warrants an arguement because of the boldness in which it is made, but I am not being mean-spirited, because I have compassion for these. I am working one-on-one with many in hopes that they will be prepared to answer any call that God may have for them in their lives.

Sorry, AV1984. I addressed my response to your message as AV1611. Is there an AV1611 on the board, too?

williemakeit, let me first say Amen to all your posts. They were a blessing to my heart. I'm glad that the Lord lead you in the way you should go. I myself was messed up in those things of the world and as you, when I saw another Christian partaking in those things I wish I could grab them by the head and smack some sense into them. I agree that today's church is more worldly than ever before. I do pray that the church turns away from the worldly things, like the rock music they have and the dress that some wear, but until then, they are still my brother and sister in Christ.

Again, thanks for your posts and I look forward in reading more.

    God bless,
    RR

    williemakeit and RR,

While I can appreciate your sentements, this thread is about (see opening post - OP) the differences between the Geneva Bible and the KJV. If you wish to discuss the issue you brought up, please start a new thread. In the past, I have helped to get threads off topic. But, I have been trying really hard to change that lately. I don't like to see threads get off topic. If you see something related but not on topic (rabbit trail) that you think should be discussed, then start a new thread for that item. Thanks.

williemakeit, yes there is an AV1611jim on the boards somewhere. There's no offense taken at the mistake. Many just call me AVL, which stands for Anthony & Vivian Lanius. We were married in 1984.

So,now back to your post...I was glad to hear that you don't judge those who use other versions, though I am a KJV preferred person who will use other versions with ease and confidence. I used to be KJVO. I don't fight or downgrade the KJV for this reason. I do, however, after many years of research, fight KJV Onlyism when it is taken to extremes. So...that all was just for clarification. Again...no harm no foul. [IMG]

So, to keep this thread on topic, the differences between the KJV and one of it's predecessors, The Geneva Bible is clear. Are they both the perfect, inerrant Word of God?
