Churches are to be run independently of other churches but still cooperating together. Truth be known there should be a good IFB near your home but too many pastors and church members are stuck in the Bible belt and won't send or encourage preachers to leave and go to Bible college and start a curch somewhere other than the South east. I am going to Russia as a missionary. I have no answer for you. Sorry.

Carpetbagger? Why would someone want to use that term. If the north is so great then why are all the northerners moving south?

I hate to say it, but in our SBC church that we are attending here, we're finding much the same thing as far as the women running most things. The pastor does do the preaching, but the women are more active in our SS classes, soulwinning, etc. It is very discouraging to see some of what is taking place. Our church is one of the more "conservative" SBC churches in the area, but the explosive growth has literally put most of the women in the lead. I don't know if the men are avoiding their roles, or what. We've considered going back to the IFB's, but here, they are fighting amongst themselves, taking each others bus kids, etc., etc. It's just not a good position to be in. And to think, this is the Bible Belt!

    Thanks again folks.
Craig, you have been most helpful. I did (eventually) find that web site with the information you posted.
Considering our choices, after much prayer and certain circumstances, my wife and I decided to "have church" together at home.
Granted, it is a deplorable situation. We would much rather be in fellowship with other believers, but we find no fellowship. We had attended this CBA church for weeks before anyone offered a welcome. We even attempted to "make the first move" but received a less than warm welcome. It was as if we were invading their territory or something. It is hard to explain. This town is a very little farming town in the extreme N.E. plains of Montana and is not just cold weather-wise, it is cold in every other sense as well.
Without going into a long diatribe about the events which have past, we decided it best to worship at home.
We are making plans to return to where God wanted us in the first place.
In Idaho, in prison preaching, in our home church
We never should have left, but there you go.
Yes we have been faithful to the Great Commission.
I have a question which might belong in a thread of its own.
Once you have a convert or two, and you can't in good conscience before God, recommend any local church, What do you do? Start your own? Knowing you will not be staying?
    What a pickle!
This illustrates why it is SO important to consider if there is a good church before making any kind of move. That is unless you are called as a missionary to that area. Which I am not.

That is a sad situation Jim, I'll be praying for you. I would invite you down here, but I know you have work to do up there [IMG]

av1611. I would not recommend anyone go to a IFB church because of their views on other Christians. Not all SBC churches are like the one you described and as a matter of fact the conservatives are taking charge and if I were you I would call the churches around your areas and ask them if they are a conservative SBC and if so that is where I would try, for in my opinion, they are closest to what Baptist churches should be like.
