I do not wish to start a big fight with this. I just want to know the following: of all the SBC colleges and universities (not seminaries, although I suppose you can count their undergraduate programs), which of them is conservative? I would venture to guess that most of the SBC colleges and universites are moderate to liberal, although that is just a guess.

To clarify terms, I am using conservative here to mean those who are roughly in line theologically with the Convention itself. I am willing to admit that that is perhaps a problematic definition, but I do not wish to enter into a debate on that subject in this thread.

I know Union University in Jackson, TN is pretty conservative. Are there others?

Again, this is not to start a fight. If you do not have anything nice to say, then do not say anything at all. [IMG]

Luther Rice Seminary (my alma mater) has always been conservative. They never fell prey to the apostates.

Hey, Daniel---I'm a Luther Rice Grad myself---although they are not an SBC institution---they indeed are affiliated and side with the ultri conservative movement of the SBC---

Southern with Al Mohler and Southwestern with Patterson are both ultri-conservative

Boyce Bible College (located on the Southern campus) is definitely conservative, as is the theological faculty of Mid Continent College. Mid America Seminary is not OFFICIALLY SBC, but really is, and they are conservative, as is Liberty University and Theological Seminary, which is not officially SBC, but which was unofficially recognized by Patterson after "Jay Ree" joined the SBC.

Midwestern is starting up an undergrad program this fall on their campus that is going to be conservative.

Baptist College of Florida is probably the only one not on a seminary campus that would label itself "conservative."

There are others that are conservative but that don't necessary wear a label.
Louisiana College (though the trustees are pushing a decidedly conservative agenda.)
    William Carey
    ETBU
    Mary Hardin-Baylor
    Howard Payne
    Wayland
    Williams Baptist

Personally, I would think that Richmond, Wake Forest, Campbellsville, Furman and Stetson are the exception rather than the rule.

I agree with Blackbird -- my husband taught at Luther Rice Seminary, and they are thoroughly SBC - just not supported by Cooperative Program funds. Southwestern and Southern both are top notch conservative; can't go wrong, but since I'm a Southwestern grad, I'd recommend it more highly. Choose wisely. God Bless.

I can affirm that Williams Baptist is a conservative school. I am a student there, and everything I've seen is non-Calvinist, conservative scholarship. To my knowledge, the professors teach in accordance with the Baptist Faith and Message.

    StefanM,

I don't want to start a debate that will get moved to another thread, but what hath "non-Calvinist" and "conservative" to do with each other?"

If anything, Reformed Soteriology is decidedly conservative, IMHO.

I know that Calvinism is 100% conservative.

I just happen to know that the professors are not Calvinist, so simply I stated it to provide further information.

The two terms were not meant to be related to each other.

And connected to one of the six SBC seminaries. Which the orignal post of the thread acknowledged as a given that they are conservative.

I just remembered that my alma mater, Liberty University, is a school affliated with the SBC. It a good, solid conservative school.

In the context of this conversation, Cedarville University in Ohio and Western Baptist College in Oregon, who have recently identified with the SBC, should be mentioned.

  17. Both North Greenville College (SC) and Union University (TN) are top notch conservative SBC schools.

Being an Old SBC'er - I enjoy learning that we are growing ... but I must ask: when did Northern Baptist Colleges start aligning with us?
