Why are you answering the question with a question? Why can't you just answer the question?

    Here's essentially what happened:

LP: Rev. Joshua is deluded by Satan.

RJV: LP, can you prove that?

    LP: What is Satan anyway?

You're the one accusing me of a being satanically deluded (and put my professional title in quotation marks), so you should be the one to define what you meant by "satan."

    Sorry Tom,

The thread was started with one point. Apparently LP is incapable of answering it. If he keeps refusing, feel free to shut down the thread.

I muddled my e-mail and lost my password. This is LP here.

RJV is obviously tying to VERY, VERY tightly CONTROL the discourse and its terms and definitions here--let's exclude this and that and ONLY include this certain thing. I will not give in.

I will admit that "deluded" was an unfit choice of words since, Biblically, that is defined as almost on the level of possession. I would not venture something that far as actual here.

This is a good enough close for me:

    God said...

"It is better to trust in the Lord, than to put confidence in man". Psalm 118:8

Satan was the first one to convince people to question God's word & use their own intellect to justify it.

Joshua, that is what you do. You tell us it's OK to doubt the virgin birth. You tell us the apostle Paul was only writing his instruction to fit in with his times & govornment. You tell us homosexuality isn't a sin.

It takes the authority away from God's word.

I really wish you would re-think what you teach. I would love to be able to call you a Christian brother, but I can't. I don't believe we are on the same side. I am not saying you aren't a christian, nor am I claiming to be better than you. I'm just saying I wish you took your calling with a more reverent attitude.

LP, You already made that point and I already addressed that issue. The whole purpose of this discussion was to get you to defend your libelous assertion about my sermons. My guess is that you never actually read one word and were simply shooting off your mouth.

Mr. Curtis, I think you are confusing our different approaches to Scriptures with me having an irreverant attitude. I take my calling and my profession, very seriously. I chose a rigorous seminary and worked very hard while there. Several years later, I continue to correspond with the faculty there to get suggestions on new scholarship that is worth reading.

I have a disciplined life of prayer and study, and that is reflected in my preaching and in other aspects of my professional work (which I seem to remember was the original reason I posted the sermons - to demonstrate how seriously I take this stuff).

It may simply be inconceivable to you that people who come from the baptist camp I do are serious students of Scripture and pious Christians (I admit it was hard for me to accept about people in your camp); in which case I'm probably wasting my breath here. Nevertheless, it was worth a try.

I was hoping to visit this thread and see if anyone had followed up on my thought from Follow? Me?. Wishful thinking huh? From the looks of this and the thread that cdouglas referenced you are the center of attention here on the old BB ;)

Did I read this thread correctly? A man accused you of being Satanically deluded and then later asked you who or what Satan was? Hmmm... I believe there is some delusion here alright.

I would like to make a suggestion to cd, Mr. Curtis, LP and the rest. Read Hi Ho Hi Ho its off to work we go. It isn't very long and I guarantee you will be glad you did. Joshua is a very talented writer, and minister; then when you have apologized to him for the unfair things you have said read the Homily he gave at his Grandmothers funeral. It will be worth your while.

One more thing, I don't post here much anymore because I have a difficult time keeping my tongue er fingers in check. After reading several of the threads where ya'll engage Joshua, on a variety of issues, I am compelled to tell you this. He has never that I am aware of belittled or criticized your beliefs or faith. Unlike the treatment he recieves from several of you, he always answers you honestly and explains his position. The fact that it doesn't fit with your world view does not give you carte blanche to blast away. I have a sneaking suspicion that if any of you were to post work you had done our friend Joshua would not spout off at the mouth er fingers without reading it.

He is a fellow follower of the risen one. He is my brother and yours. Please treat him so.

    Peace
    Russell

PS If anyone would like to discuss the "downward mobility" thought from the earlier post or knows where it came from I would love to hear your thoughts.

Actually, I read Hi-Ho...along with a couple others.

Joshua, don't get me wrong. I don't hate you. But you have said things on here that just make me wretch. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way, but probably the only one who will be honest enough to tell you what I think.

And Rhoneycutt, Joshua has taken some shots at the fundies here. Some pretty uncalled for.

While I disagree strongly on some areas of Joshua's theology, I find it troubling that people who would claim to love the Bible due to its inerrancy and inspiration would reject its authority by treating Joshua in an unChristlike manner. (I'm not pointing at you Mr. Curtis. Don't take it that way since this post follows yours.) I think we all have to remember that the object of the game is not to win an argument or make a point but follow a Master who died and rose again. This is no call to lay down theological arms. Quite the contrary. Just telling my conservative brethren that if you say you love the Word, live it.

That being said, I'm giving the 24 hour notice and then this thread is closed.

Point taken. Just realize that the juxtaposition between him & us fundies will result in us locking horns every once in a while.

I will refrain from the cheap shots (although I don't remember out & out insulting him, at least not for a while now. When I first came here, I probably said some things I shouldn't), if we can get the same respect.

Drat. And all I really wanted was for LP to prove one simple assertion that he made. *sigh*

    Joshua

P.S. Mr. Curtis, I don't know of any uncalled for "shots" I have taken. If you can point any out (private message or e-mail is fine) I'll apologize for them.
