I need some input about my conviction that I am not a good/effective worshipper.I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this or not. I want my praise and worship to be pleasing to Jesus. I just feel that it isn't, and it really bothers me. I've prayed about this, and continue to.
Any help, or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Important point is that God is pleased with your desire and is satisfied with what you are doing most likely - as you mature and develop in your walk with him these things tend to take care of themselves.

He knows where you are, and what your knowledge is so that is where He meets you.

As to get better - read His Word and maybe look to the Psalms to see how David was before Him. Read the New Testament and note the terms for worship and what the people were doing.

Find a concordance and look at all the verses that use the word worship and read the context to see how the term is used and what the people were doing. Will include all refs to worship, then there is worshipped etc. as well.

I know lots of folks that think the singing, arm waving displays of emotion are praising God. I don't. I think that is worship. I think praising God is when we are telling others of his wonderous works.... in time, and in our lives. Now if I went to a doctor, or auto mechanic or retailer, who really treated me good and supplied my need above and beyond.... I would be letting everyone know what great deal or service I got at (wherever it was).... When you are bragging on someone like that we call it "Singing his praises." So if you want to Sing "His" praises.... ya ought to be telling others about the good deal ya got from Him.

Still, I'm not going say that worship or praise is what God finds most pleasing..... If you really want to please God.... the best way is to believe what He has said and in Him who he sent....

Perhaps it would helpful if you expound a bit on what you think a "good / effective worshipper" is and why you don't think you are one.

Joseph-Sorry I wasn't more clear in my post. I know that my worship and praise is heart-felt and genuine. It's just that I don't feel that it is as expressive of my praise as it should be. Thanks for your input.

If your worship is heartfelt and genuine, I don't think you need to worry that you're not expressing it sufficiently to God in your prayer and singing. God knows what's in your heart!

I think being too concentrated on the outward expression of praise can actually be stifling because it draws the focus away from God. This is one reason I find it hard to worship God through contemporary praise music, but that's another story. :D

Friend, I am still not clear on what you are asking. How do you want to express it?

    Friend,

I think your best option is to look up all those verses and do a study on Biblical praise and worship.

If you were a father and your son suggested he was worried about sufficiently honoring his father because although he regularly said he loved you and tried to do the things you wanted, he wasn't sure he was doing that well enough, how would you think about that son? Would you not tell that son, in all sincerity, that you are very pleased with how he serves you?

If you then, being evil, can be understanding and loving towards your son, how much more will your heavenly father accept your worship of him?

I agree. It sounds like you're looking for some kind of feeling or "charge" out of the worship experience. You're probably thinking the ends of worship are something other than they're supposed to be.

Is the problem that you are measuring your worship and praise by how others do it? You shouldn't.

What matters is how you are honoring and praising God on the inside. You can do that quietly or very low-key. It does not have to be like other people, tapping feet, raising hands, waving, or singing loudly. Those things are fine but it does not mean everyone has to worship that way.

Reverence and sincere acknowledgement of the Lord are more important than outward show, so focus on that.

Rob, what is it that you believe God wants from your worship that you're not giving Him?

I guess I can't really explain what my "problem" is, But I've sure received a lot of insight from everybody. I'm going to look up the worship verses that have been given, and do a more in depth study of the Book of Psalms.
Maybe I am just trying to measure my worship by how others do it.
Thank you my Brothers and Sisters. You will never know how much your guidance, and understanding mean to me. I mean not know your faces, but I know the size of your heart.

Friend, remember there is a lot of things people do in services that they call worship that is not. Some of it is just to draw attention to themselves and that draws attention away from God.

Remember why we are here. To serve and worship and all to give glory to God
