Salty, worse ramifications to have done so.

Salty, the 7 trillion is just the interest we will have to pay. Is it right that your grandchildren and great-grandchildren will be paying for this misadventure?

Really? They why did they allocate 141 billion in the 2014 budget?

They won't be paying $7 trillion, they will pay, at most, $1.05 trillion. Still unconscionable, but let's get our numbers correct.

It never was Bush's war. He was just president during a couple campaigns.

War belongs to the people who benefit most from them.

    Yeesh.

ITL throws out facts and numbers. I throw out facts and numbers. CTB doesn't acknowledge we even exist.

Guess facts don't make for a fun discussion....

Yep. CTB's posted multiple times since the last post here. He's basically proved he's allergic to facts.

Obligation and a SOFA agreement. Creating a war is quite different than inheriting one.

    For example
Would you please provide a link for the SOFA?

Is it right that your grand-children and great-grandchilder will be payng for the lost War on Poverty?

They were wrong in doing so - see 10th Amendment.

Crab, You are so smart? How much will the interest on Obama's 10 trillion added to the deficit cost over the next 40 years?

    It happens sometime. :wavey:

We could spend it on the poor is a dog that just won't hunt. We've spent trillions on the poor and we still have them...always will. The thing is money in the hands of Congress will get spent. Period.

They'll spend it on pork bellies. They'll spend it studying the mating habits of the birds and the bees. They'll spend it on just about anything. Sure they'll throw a bone to the poor and any other place they think they can buy a vote.

    Crabbie,
You just have this thing about the difference between Democrats and Republicans when none exists. I am as far from you on the political spectrum from you as one can get, yet I feel we had no business in Iraq. The difference between you and me is the Constitution. The reason we had no business there is because Congress did not declare war. If they had of we would have fought to win in a short amount of time and not worried about rebuilding the nation.

You on the other hand feel it is a money issue, that we could have spent the money on what I would guess would be more liberal causes that would have made people even more dependent on the government than they presently are. Contrary to what you are advocating that money should have been used to balance the budget, wipe out the national debt, and lowered taxes to stimulate the economy.

One day you are going to wake up and realize the party you cheer on is exactly like the one you drag through the mud all the time.

I have no problem with your comment about the Constitution.

On winning. There is no question that we could subdue any government in Iraq. The problem is that no matter how long we would have stayed, whether it be a day, a year or a hundred years as soon as we left problems would have started popping up. There will be no peace there until the next draconian dictator takes over ... and he will not be our friend. This, to me, is one of the lessons of history in the Mid-East.

They are alike in many ways. However currently they are not alike in how they view helping the citizens of our country who are in need. That is the major difference I see.

Truly I once was a registered Republican, but left the GOP when they adopted, very successfully their Southern Policy. LBJ was prophetic when he signed the Civil Rights Bill in saying, "We have lost the South for a generation." However he was wrong in saying a generation. He should have said a number of generations.
