If I learned nothing else in my constant quest for better living through chemistry, I did learn that not all people react to chemicals the same way. Even if the vast majority of people get mellow and spacy like brother Ed, that does not mean that others cannot experience severe adverse reactions. I certainly don't believe that everyone who takes antidepressants is going to become suicidal or homocidal any more than I believe everyone who takes LSD is going to think they can fly and jump out of a window.

One universal side affect of antidepressants seems to be general loss of sense of humor.

Unfair comparison, IMO. By and large, people who take anti-depressants are trying to get themselves to a "normal" state.

Folks who take LSD are looking to escape from normal.

    Apples and oranges.

Modern medications for depression are not at all like the old "uppers" and "downers" that we remember. They do not work the same way the old meds did. They do not make people "mellow" and "spacey" in general and if they did that would probably be considered an adverse side effect. Individuals can have idiosyncratic reactions to most any medication, though.

Yeah, like, I know what you mean. That stuff in the 60's can never be matched. Like man, do you remember the pin ball machines and the pretty colors they put out, like wow, that got you to another deminsion. First they ripped out the pin ball machines, then the little pill thingys dont even make as pretty colors any more.

Well, I proved them all wrong. They said if I took this stuff for 40 years, my brain would be fried, and look at me today.

    Quite the contrary.
The antidepressants are prescribed to help people with
depression. One of the signs of depression is a sense of
    humor.

Some other signs are (not all depressed people have
    all signs):

    1. lost sense of humor
    2. inability to made decisions
    3. sleep disruptions (too much & too little)
    4. eating disorders (too much & too little)
    5. hypocondria (lots of various aches & pains)
    6. drug disorders/substance abuse
    7. inability to deal with stress
    8. feelings of loneliness
    9. 'who cares'? 'Why bother'? syndromes
    10. /this is a joke :)/ their blood type is B-negative
    11.

Depression is the #1 health problem in the USofA.
    Depression is an epidemic.

One person in five in the USofA will have a depression
    some times in their lives

People over sixty-five are four times more likely
to have depression than the total population

Depression is NOT a sin (but all who get depressed
are sinners; all who don't get depressed are also
    sinners)

Depression is NOT a lack of will power (though some
of the 'signs' above may look like it).

More than 80% of the people with depression can
    be successfuly treated with meds

A sign of depression is a sense of humor and another sign of depression is a lost sense of humor? So whether you have a sense of humor or have lost it, pass the Prozac. Isn't psychiatry wonderful, no matter what the signs are, you can't be wrong.

    Ha. Ha.

I mean like dexedrine, etc., man. The modern SSRIs do not work the same way at all. It is utterly impossible to get high with antidepressants.

According to your stated criteria, I already exhibit the signs, now all I need is the dope.

Well, it seems that all liberals are depressed. They haven't managed to drain us dry yet.

But, many conservatives are depressed as well.

How does that scripture apply Ed? You posted all of the signs, are you calling yourself wicked and adulterous?
