I shall loan you my glasses. They are called the "lens of context". You should wear them often while reading scripture.

Deut. 22:13 "If any man takes a wife and goes in to her and then turns against her (lit. "hates her"), (14) and charges her with shameful deeds and publicly defames her, and says, 'I took this woman, but when I came near her, I did not find her a virgin....'"

Clearly, a serious charge has been made against the woman. She is defamed and shamed by the charge...

    (15) then the girl's father and her mother shall take and bring out the evidence of the girls' virginity to the elders of the city at the gate....And they shall spread the garment before the elders of the city.

The girl's family defends her honor and seeks judgement before the "elders" of the city.

    (18) "So the elders of that city shall take the man and chastise him, (19) and they shall fine him a hundred shekels of silver and give it to the girl's father, because he publicly defamed a virgin of Israel...."

Clearly, the law prevents a man from taking a young virgin as a wife, coming in to her, and then attempting to reject her based of a false charge.

If, however, the charge is true...that she was not a virgin...but was presented in marriage as being a virgin....then the commandment was to be stoned to death at her father's door.

Thank Almighty God we no longer live under the O.T. law!

    peace to you:praying:

You aren't seeing the context. Jesus clearly says the promise in heaven is eternal life, not homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields and so on.

The promise on earth is that if homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields are left "for My sake, and the gospel's"....they will be replaced by 100's of others. Jesus is not saying to abandon your families...but that if your families are lost because of your commitment to Him and the gospel's, God will replace them with other families (that is within Christian fellowship).

Jesus told us that following Him would make son to rise up against father and daughter rise up against mother.... All this is pointing to God's demand that we love Him first and foremost in our lives so that we will not be persuaded by family to abandon Him.

FTR, you claimed Jesus promised to give His followers 100 wives in heaven. That is an out and out lie.

    peace to you:praying:

Don't play the victim, it is unbecoming of someone of your intelligence and learning. You know what you are doing. It is deliberate. It is offensive and purposely so, IMHO.

I appreciate your candid and honest assessment of efforts here on the BB.
The tone of your questions and comments lends itself to the belief you are intelligent and learned in scriptures.

You deliberately pick various scripture passages, change certain words in your comments to put a maligning twist to the verses, and then say you just happen to come across all the passages and are curious about what others think. When someone questions you, you use passive agressive comments to make it look like you are an innocent victim who is just trying to understand scripture.

I don't buy it. But that is simply MHO.
Just to set the record straight, I said it was an "out and out lie". I did not say it was a "big fat evil lie". Don't twist words to make yourself look like a victim. It is unbecoming of someone of your intellegence and learning.
No, He did not, in fact, say that.

First, he did not say they would get those things in heaven. In heaven, they get eternal life.

Secondly, you continue to not see or acknowledge the context. Mark 10, in context, takes place just after the encounter with the "rich, young ruler" and Jesus telling His disiciples how hard it is for the rich to get into heaven.

The rich, young ruler could not leave his money and lands and follow Jesus. His money was more important than discipleship. His money was more important than salvation.

If their family is more important to them than following Jesus, then it can keep them from following Jesus. Jesus is not telling them to abandon their families. He is telling them not to allow their families to hinder their discipleship.

If they must choose, they must choose Jesus over their families. That in no way means they should abandon their families or the commitments they have.

That is not what the passage is saying, and, quite frankly, I think you already know that.

    peace to you:praying:

CD seems to have the Bible mixed up with the Quran. It was Mohammed to promised 72 virgins in paradise, not Jesus.

Which is a good reason to point out that Jesus never promises His disciples 100's of wives, in this life or the next.
