It is ONLY possible to be convinced in ones mind that Creation was the way the earth came about, by the revelation of the Holy Spirit. The basis for one conviction is that of faith, and not because some Scientist declares that creation is to be believed. The Holy Word of God tells us, that "without faith, it is IMPOSSIBLE to please God" (Hebrews 11:6). It is like the existence of God (which this text in Hebrews is speaking of, as it goes on to say, "for he that cometh to God must believe that He exists..."), which can only be by faith, wich is twofold, in His Word the Bible, and in creation, both of which witness to a Creator God. Now, we have the evidence of creation on the highest authority. For the Lord Jesus Himself said: "Mark 13:19
For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the CREATION which GOD CREATED unto this time, neither shall be." No one can be convinced of this by argument, unless of course the person has an "open mind", which would allow the Holy Spirit to show them that creation is the ONLY way!

I appreciate your post, but, as a science editor, I also appreciate the fact that God's witness as to creation is just as much in the creation itself as in special revelation. It is a matter, as Paul stated in Romans 1, of whether or not those who are presented with the truth choose to suppress it or accept it, however.

Scientists who are Christian also accept that God created the universe.

Would the world be discernably different without the Holy Spirit? It seems to me that if such an entity exists, it is not very effective at making its presence known. I can't think of any way in which one can be sure of the operation and presence of the Holy Spirit. I can't think of any way in which a world with the Holy Spirit can be distinguished from one without it. Can you? I have never had any assistance from the Holy Spirit. From what I see of the theories of creationists, they have had none either. In fact if they have had any help from anything or anyone, it must be some negative force, bearing in mind all the mistakes they make, some of which are being documented in this forum. I would think that a Holy Spirit would help them to avoid the elementary mistakes in such things as statistics, and in factual matters that often are so rightly criticized by mainsteam science. The mistakes and misinformation put forth by creationists are contrary evidence to the workings of the Holy Spirit.

    Hi Helen

I understand where you are coming from. However, I still contend that to be able to accept as fact something as big as creation (especially where the biblical teaching is "Creation ex nihilo"), the evidence of creation itself is simply not enough. We are living in an age where more and more children are being taught Evolution as fact, and Creation is most of the time never given the same time. When so-called "scientists" side with Evolution, and teach it as fact, it is these who get the greater exposure in the media. Yes, God can, and does speak through His creation, but the greater witness has to be is Holy Word. After all, the fact of Creation is what we read in the Holy Bible. Yet, without the Holy Spirit, it would be very difficult, if no impossible to accept as fact the Genesis account. A good example is Peter 101, who obviously know mauch about creation (some of which he would probably got off this board, from people shuch as yourself), yet finds it almost impossible to accept it, BECAUSE he has not had the Holy Spirit show him the error of his ways. This does cause a problem, as the human heart is full of pride, and causes a barrier to come up especially when spritual principals as being discussed. This is true of all humans. Science does have its place, but is limited to our knowledge of things. No one will ever be able to prove creation "Scientifically", as this would rather specific data to be analysed in a certain way. Just the same with being able to prove "Scientifically", whether I had roast turkey last Christmas! Tnere are limitations of what Science can do for us!

As Don Meridith observed, "It ain't braggin' if you can do it."

    That's what scientists do.

One has to conclude that the initial creation event was "ex nihilo". However, the creation of life was not. It was produced from pre-existing matter, if Genesis is correct.

It's directly observed, and the evidence for common descent is multiple, and from independent sources of evidence. It's a fact.

Keep in mind that for a Christian, evolution and creation are completely compatible. But churches and parents should teach religion, not public schools.

Yes, scientists are overwhelmingly convinced that evolution is a fact. Remember, science works on evidence.

The problem is less one of accepting Genesis, as it is in the fact that Christians differ in exactly what it says about some things.

Often, the very people who should most consider this, do not think it could possibly apply to them. Ironic, it is.

True. Science can only approach the physical universe.

    Very true.

Depends on the evidence. Videotape, for instance, with some clues on tape, would be sufficient to conclude that you had.

    Absolutely.
