Doesn't it make sense to send all illegals back until they go through proper channels. Whether related or not? From a christian view, disobeying the civil magistrate is sin unless his laws contradict God's precepts. And too, is illegal immigration from predominantly catholic countries, south of the border, stacking the deck in favor of the Papacy who hasn't changed in centuries?

Good question. Also, why is it America accepts so few Asian immigrants anymore ?

I'm not up on the numbers of immigrants per ethnicity, but there are several problems looming when immigrants remain sectarian and do not acclimate with mainstream America.

This can lead to some false equivalencies. The vast majority of those US citizens indicted for prison-potential offenses make bail. There then is no such separation until the case is adjudicated, all appeals exhausted, and imprisonment (if sentenced) implemented. I don't have the numbers, but suspect that in most cases the imprisoning is of one member of a two-parent household, thus the kids would still be in custody of the other parent.

The practice to be implemented on illegal immigrants is a change from existing policy made specifically in the hopes of discouraging such illegal entry. Those on whom it is implemented have no chance to make bail and thus no opportunity to avoid separation while their cases are being adjudicated. Thus, IMO, the policy change is of questionable morality, and from a pragmatic (and thus less important morally) viewpoint, is likely to create more ill will than it will reduce illegal entries.

    “.....a change from existing policy....”

No. An “enforcement” of existing policy.

that illegal was off his rocker, read the entire story.

Yeah, this policy of detaining illegal alien children goes back to the Ninth Circus circa 1997- you can't detain a minor for more than 20 days if there's an asylum application out. Usually, the parents (if they are really the parents) are detained for a couple of months before their hearing, but the kids are released after less than three weeks to a sponsor or a legal US resident. Separation is inevitable and there's not that many facilities to house all these families.

Yep, if both of your parents commit a crime, they both will go to jail without their children, this happened to a friend of mine years ago - both of his parents were busted for manufacturing LSD in their own house and he had to go live with his grandparents.

I made this comparison some time ago and old Hank argued against it saying it was not an equivalent argument.

What is "mainstream America?" White Christians born in the U.S.? I think we should tear down the Statue of liberty. It no longer speaks for 'mainstream America."
