Crystal Cathedral megachurch files for bankruptcy

    I'd imagine a lot is tied to real estate (mortage, lines of credit), unemployment and loss of members due to a new "pastor" leading to a loss in giving, and irresponsibility in church leadership in handling funds.

    Sorry, can't go along with that.

    Why should a non-profit organization designed to help others have to pay taxes on contributions?

    If they receive government funds, then you have a point.

    The federal government views tax breaks as a form of government funding. Which is why in practice if a church receiving tax breaks violates "hate speach" mandates they loose their tax free status. Whether you buy it or not its how it opperates.
