I don't think that Cuba is hurt by the embargo. The Castros just don't let anybody have anything in their military dictatorship with a communist ideology.

Also, some Libertarians use the same line of reasoning as the other groups against the embargo. That is, they are radicals who support the return of the "lost provinces" to Mexico and a forcing of the USA out of all of Latin America. In short, some Libertarians are anti-America and would like to imagine a world without America. Libertarians are usually well off and do not think that they would go down with the ship.

We have open-trade policies with several commie countries.

The biggest military threat I can see is from my own government. And you are just flailing, now. Wall St bankers ? LOL. Good thing I like you.

Like I said, the sanctions you support are not applied consistently, they do nothing to bring governments down, and anger and alienate the populations. And we have an open-trade policy with Thailand, where the sex tourism business openly thrives.

I think that the Cubans who have escaped communism want the embargo continued.

I am not sure when the embargo began but I would guess with JFK, so it would take the Democrats to repeal it.

The military threat is real. Just ask people who live in the Falklands and who were attacked by Argentina.

The GOP wants to stop buying oil from Venezuela until Maduro is replaced.

Unfortunately, Bro. Curtis, there are radicals in the Libertarian Party who want to stop what they consider to have been American imperialism.

I'm not sure. I know some folks from Cuba, but I wouldn't speak for them.

Not sure. It could be put to any vote, I think.

I am not worried about a foreign invasion. Even if we had one, it'd start in those liberal infested cities where folks can't be armed. There is no way any Army could win in guerrilla style warfare in redneck/hillbilly flyover country. No, it will be our own country that will eliminate us by the tens of thousands.

I would like to stop buying oil from everywhere. We import most of our oil from Canada, and Mexico, anyway.

I would love to see a serious drawdown of deployed troops. We can continue weapons research, and defense up, by all means. Secure the border. I'd like to see that.

That's like me saying you agree with Muslims because you're both against gay marriage.

That's a quilt by association trick the neocons picked up from their progressive ancestors.

The Vietnamese-Americans certainly don't mind us trading with the country they fled from and indeed they visit the country regularly.

    Hmm?

Yes because apparently the situation of the Falklands is totally similar to the strategic situation of the Continental United States.

Instead of buying it from a rather authoritarian secular democracy, they prefer to enrich Islamist theocracies where religious police shoved girls back into a burning school because they were not properly attired and that uses slave labour to build massive cities in the middle of the desert.

    Thank you very much!

I thought that the alarm would be that Putin is re-establishing a military base in Cuba but everyone has low expectations of Obama I suppose.

And no one seemed to contest that the Russians retreated on their own without the prodding of JFK according to the Russians.

But there has been a great uproar about the Libertarian alignment with the groups that they always point to as the source of evil in the world. Of course some Libertarians are anti-American radicals like 0bam@.

As for the aside about gay marriage, I would say that the 2012 Libertarian Platform is for gay marriage:

Sexual orientation, preference, gender, or gender identity should have no impact on the government's treatment of individuals, such as in current marriage, child custody, adoption, immigration or military service laws. Government does not have the authority to define, license or restrict personal relationships. Consenting adults should be free to choose their own sexual practices and personal relationships.

If we do not give up our boneheaded Cuba policy, we will find ourselves shut out of a close neighbor and our potential adversaries tightening their footholds there. China is making overtures as we speak.

I think the policy has other people giving credit to Cuba. Mexico, Russia, and South Africa were listed by the source. The bills are never paid. Bush fixed it so that all trade with Cuba was cash. This has spared the American taxpayer so far.

As for the Russian base there, that goes to the Democrat weakness on Russia--remember their promise to be more flexible after 2012?

As for the Libertarians alignment with all the groups that Libertarians usually denounce, it is just rank Libertarian hypocrisy of the do as I say not as I do type.

You have to remember that Fidel Castro is a rock star in the USA in spite of his racism and murder.

The Cuban people must be sick of communism, by now. Opening up trade is a big-time gesture of good will towards them.

Opening trade with Cuba while the Castros are still in power gives the impression to the world that we approve of their government, and gives them no incentive to abandon the dinosaur of communism. With American dollars flowing into the country, they will be able to bolster their police-state control of the people and simply appoint a successor who will give Cuba more of the same they've had since 1959.

The Davos Groups and the others want the USA to give things to Cuba. They do not want Cuba to have to pay.

The Libertarians think that the US has been imperialistic and should compensate the victims.

    Good!

And you have to factor in Venezuela, Nicaragua, Bolivia, and Ecuador as an axis with Cuba, also.

Libertarian foreign policy is much like liberal foreign policy.
